What I really liked — apart from the great extra storage AND SUPPORT given for the daybed by the horizontal bookshelf unit — was the VERY ELOQUENT way the lovely cat briefly inspected her pink pillow AND TURNED HER BACK ON IT!

This is such a great idea. As someone with depression who spends most days in bed, this would be a perfect way to separate daytime and move a little bit. I’m excited at the idea of building this and having dedicated storage for my craft items and books so I can create a healthier habit.
There’s so many reasons why this is fabulous and I just wanted to thank you so much for sharing:) I hope I can do this, I have that bookshelf and have been wanting to thrift something cottagey but haven’t made the switch bc i don’t want to waste it!

I have been searching for "storage ideas" for a week. The amount of videos and pictures showing different ways to use a Kallax from Ikea is absurd. You can have a whole house built of Kallax, lol. Kallax solves all the storage problems and I really like how umder the bed storage turned out. It looks great! 😊

Add some rubber feet of different heights underneath the shelf unit. Cheap at the hardware store or online for $2-3.

You should put self-adhesive felt padding all along the underside of that shelving unit, to protect the wooden floors. In fact, that jumping on the bed may have already scratched and damaged the floor boards underneath. You can also layer the felt padding to even out the shelves and give them stability.

Or if you flip the unit on its side and add a handle, place the felt on that underside, and you have easily sliding pull out drawers, less dust issues for your books, a more even and neat visual appearance, and better potential use of that storsge space. Don't forget to add felt padding to the back of the crate and to the back, sides & under the legs of the bedframe, so it doesnt scratch the floor and wall under the windowsill whenever you plop onto the bed. Or you may lose your deposit and a rental reference.

You can buy like table leg adjusters. Little feet that screw in and out. That’d make it adjustable if you ever decide to move it.
