Satriani
Other than that, great vid. Satriani and Vai were ahead of their time in the late '70s and early 80's. "Surfing With the Alien" was the first guitar soloist album I owned. Pretty good, since I was/am a percussionist.

And who taught Satch? A fantastic and relatively unknown jazz guitar player named Dave Creamer, who had played and recorded with Miles Davis and lived in Alameda, near Berkeley, CA. How do I know? Because I was also studying with Dave Creamer and met Joe as a fellow student in the late '70's. Joe was/is a super nice guy. I really respect him not only as a fantastic player but a quality person.

Satriani is one of those artists that I listen to and immediately feel good again.

I saw Satriani with, of all people, Steve Miller, last summer in Bethel Woods NY. At first I thought it was an unusual pairing but I was pleasantly surprised. So was the entire audience!

Joe has always been one of the greats, I learned some of my best ideas from his playing, I still play his music til this day, and love his new stuff too. Another one who's supremely underrated is Eric Johnson.

I have only seen him play live ones in my life, but I will never forget it.

I've heard Joe in interviews pronounce his own name as "Satri-Annie" so this guy's not wrong. Also, i personally think Alex Skolnick is a better thrash guitarist than Kirk, but Kirk is still incredible. Sure, Kirk goes back to the same scales and techniques over and over, but almost every guitarist does: generally speaking, any number of your favorite guitarists have their own given habits, like Joe Satriani has masterful legato that he incorporates into almost every song, Steve Vai mastered whammy bar techniques that he incorporates into any song possible, even a modern and inhuman guitar player Guthrie Govan has his own habits with his trademark chromatic lines that give an impression of more a saxaphonist than a guitarist. With these examples in mind, Kirk's habits tend to be those of his heroes, with lots of double stop bends and pentatonics that you would hear in solos back in the 70s when rock music really came into its own. It really is an inventive thing that allows Metallica to stand out in the thrash scene as every other thrash guitarist was trying to reinvent to make a sound of their own, Kirk simply took what was perfect about 70s playing and integrated it into the thrash circle perfectly. Now keep in mind, I ain't a Metallica meat rider, in fact i don't listen to them regularly at all, but i can appreciate Kirk as a player, and that i can assure you he doesn't suck. At any point in Metallica's sound that it could be considered bad, its almost certainly never Kirk's doing, its usually either James or Lars.

As a young teen...mid 80s I had his poster on my wall, my guitar around my neck and my mind just blown ! ...I got to see him on the Flying in a Blue Dream tour...I'll never forget hearing him nail every part while he strolled around on stage like he was taking a walk in the park....just unbelievable

He also taught Kevin Cadogan, guitarist for Third Eye Blind. The first album is filled with fantastic guitar playing!
