The fact they heard her crying shows she never even had a chance to see or "speak" with her mom!
Most Sloth babies when they are separated from mom will sit as still and silent as can be until either mom gets to them or they pass. Its a natural defense.

So so sad! I am glad she made noise, we need more beauty in this world!
