Father taught me this when I was young. Unfortunately there are few with this needed knowledge and even fewer who would use it.

As a former fstr and paratrooper. This skill is so fun to use and so good to have. Not enough of this content. Maybe make a pace count bead video? Or rock video? Pace count is what fucks everyone up

There's no way to know your direction when you're lost with no map most people don't even know which is true north or how to tell North. So I guess what I'm trying to say is 9 times out of 10 people are going to get lost with no map no sense of direction of where they're going without their cell phone

Love your channel but did you really need cue cards off to your right? Lol just playing. The shadow stick method works great so do ranger beads. I think you could break this video down to teach each one in separate videos. Don't forget some bread like Hansel and Gretal lol

I go by the amount of beers I drink. If I can drink the average 12oz. Beer in 15 minutes then I can be drunk in as little as 3 hours.

Can you recommend a really good compass for the average guy that doesn’t cost a huge amount. How about a used US Military compass? Thanks.

Is there a way of getting maps like this... because most things these days are electronic and I'm finding it hard to find a good topographical map of my area

This is literally the bare minimum, if people don’t know this then it’s natural selection at that point.

Isnt that the whole thing about being lost? You don't know where you started in relation to where you are. You don't know what direction youve gone.

Having a contour map and a true compass to chart a path can help, especially if you can locate landmarks. But the whole idea to not getting lost is to maintain spatial awareness from the outset.

So I'd begin with that.

I gather that this is no longer common knowledge! Shame.
