In this video we are looking at the Dodge Caliber! This was an entry-level compact car that kind of was stuck in no-man's land - was it a minivan, SUV, or wagon? Some loved it while others hated it. Plus, remember the (beastly?) SRT4 version? I also go over 5 major flaws and reasons that I felt caused this car to be cancelled. Watch along for a full history of this car from concept in 2005 to its cancellation in 2012!

I know this is an unpopular viewpoint, but I really, really like the styling. So different from the usual meek look of economy cars.

I've got an srt from 2008, I bought her a gently used in 2012. She is now 12 years old with 106, 000 mi and runs smooth as ever. This car has been through thick and thin with me, very reliable. Just got to make sure to keep the maintenance up and she will treat you right

My wife bought one of these used, it was probably a former rental. It wasn't horrible. It didn't have much power and the CVT transmission always felt like every shift was going to be its last. She liked that it sat higher than a regular car (although before this she was driving a Trans Am so almost anything sat higher) . She also liked that it could haul a little more. It turned out to be a gateway vehicle; her next vehicle was an FJ Cruiser.

This car might’ve been a hit if they used the awd rt platform on the srt4

It was ahead of it's time. It was a Performance compact crossover before they were cool.

The Caliber sold well in the first two years because Chrysler would finance to people with worse credit than other companies. Then the 2008 crash happened, and they could no longer do that, so sales nosedived.

I actually like it from an economy car standpoint, it gets good gas mileage, and with the seats folded down you have a lot of carrying capacity. The interior is plasticky but it's a hard plastic that's durable and easy to clean. Seats are comfortable and theres plenty of leg room for a tall driver. All in all, I'm sad it didn't catch on.

I bought my Dodge Caliber SXT in 2010 when it was 11 months old. I read reviews and found that the owners were crazy about their Calibers ( 4.5/5) but the so called knowledgeable reviewers hated this car. I listened to the owners and I am glad I did. My Caliber SXT turned 10 years old this past May and she runs as smooth as silk. I LOVE MY DODGE CALIBER SXT.

Speaking as a european...the car is beautiful. It looks like an suv, powerful, safe, and modern. And its not too agressive as to scare off family people. Its not expensive, especially used, and its not meant to be a Maybach or a Bentley, the interior, is just fine. And aside from the ridiculously unprofessional reviews, actual reviews from mechanics state that its a solid, reliable car, especially with manual transmission. As someone in the comment section said, I think the car was ahead of its time.

I own a caliber srt 4, and I agree with 90% of this video. My car is extremely fun to drive with the same bolt on option modifications as the neon. In comparison the neon feels faster but the caliber still makes more power number for number. Both of them have their own flaws, but I wouldn't trade my car for the world. Great video though!

I bought a new Base in 2007. Still have my Cali. 180k miles on her. I've replaced the throttle box, alternator, clutch (I have the 5 speed manual), air cond compressor (I live in the South). It's been a great car. I was a mom with 3 medium aged kids when I bought it so the plastic didn't bother me. Fairly easy to clean. The chiller came in handy for long trips. Excellent turn radius on this car too (turns tighter than my husband's Corolla). Yes, it takes a bit to get up to speed, but once you're there, it cruises nicely. I found the seats comfortable enough. Stereo was good. I have never once regretted buying my car.

My daughter just bought a 07 SXT 120k miles for $2800 the interior and body is in good condition and it runs great, SO FAR, lol The onky thing ive found wrong is it needs struts, going to fix that very soon... She loves the way it looks and so do I, I think its a perfect first car, Its not to big or to small, my daughter is short so she was scared it would be to big for her and she wouldn't be able to see over the hood but after driving it once she was fine with it, I'm 6, 2 and I fit behind the wheel fine so pretty much anybody can drive it comfortably... Hopefully it turns out to be a good first car, 🤞🏻

I was really confused about this car when it first came out, especially on the heals of the neon. It was like an suv crossover before there even was such a thing, and it simply didn't have what it took to define that segment.
