As I learned from a very wise tradesman, "You purchase a quality tool & you will never be sorry!" Although Kent is a dead man now of 37 years, his words ring so true. Kent had a secondary adage, "If you own a good tool you will never lose it!" Meaning, you will never loan it because you understand its value to your welfare & your ability to perform a craftsman level job of which you can be proud of. Kent was a professional in so many regards & a marvelous mentor!

Good Advice, as someone who just got out of apprenticeship, I concur with all but need to add a sharpie and good tubing cutter. For apprentice, I think those more effective than smart phone....just my opinion. Thanks for posting.

I forgot when I got my first smartphone, I was late to that scene, but I bought it because I saw that it would be a valuable tool.

Yes sir I agree with you. The number one tool you need though is your mind and body. You could diagnose a lot just with your ears your eyes your smell and your touch. Without your senses we are worthless. You have to have good attitude and perseverance as well as common sense. The tech or the installer is the number one best tool . Invest in yourself. With the tools you are like Superman. Spidey sense lol🥰🔥🤓

Damn good advice on all points. Over the last 35 years you have hit pretty much all the steps I have been through.

I won tools from Bluon for the month of February. I won the wireless refrigerant scale and I won the field piece digital recovery machine.
Bluon rocks

A little side note on the tool bag part. Reeeally make sure you like the style of tool bag you're gonna buy. Lots of people mess up & buy a real expensive Veto bag & then realize the set-up doesn't funcion for them. I made the mistake of buying a shit load of these cool gucci vetos that now just sit in my shop. My favorite bags are just simple wide mouth style bags without many zippers, but it took me 4 vetos to realize i didn't really like the style bags veto offers. I just bought them because of quality & because i thought they looked cool.

For the meter I just recently bought a Fluke 902 FC. It is very expensive but it is well worth it!

I second the Klein 1x & 1 screwdrivers. Better weight to reward, if I am stripping a RTU down then, the impact comes out!

Curtis make sure you remind them to have extensions for your Makita workhorse that allows you to work on those units from home.

Love your videos and I just started my career in hvac. Thanks you for passing along your wisdom in this trade. Any other advice you can give on how to keep your van organized?

To be completely honest, I kinda disagree with five (although my mind could and might be changed if I did more of this) and three, at least for putting panels back on (as I feel it's all too easy to tear stuff up with an impact tool).

One absolutely should buy the best meter they can afford, and maybe even consider graduating to a better one with time. Keep the previous one around, though, if it still works. It might be really handy if your "better" meter dies. Also, take a test reading on a circuit in a known condition before you start...that too can save your life!

I despise cellular phones of all sorts and held out for as long as I could, but they are a necessary evil.
