Optimized Media In Davinci Resolve - What, Why and How?

The optimized media (proxy) workflow in Davinci Resolve is actually really nice and even a little useful. It just saved me a whole lot of head ache and a little bit of money in a project so I figured I'd make a little overview of what it is, and why and how to use it. Enjoy :)

so optimised media is a cache file, what therefore is smart render cache and render cache?

Thanks for the info! I'm using a PC I built in 2017 with an i7 7700K, GTX1080, 32GB ram, SSD drive. Bring in 4K H.265 59.9FPS content for 1080p export and the viewer was super choppy...just doing the proxie thing at the lowest res it was still choppy and now very jaggy. Just tried the Generate Optimized Media and that did the trick! I was using Filmora before this and that program actually asked you if you want to pre-proxie from teh start which was helpful and made the viewer smooth...i guess this is the same but you have to manually do it.

I don't see the "Optimized Media" column in version 17, there is only the proxy column, so how do I know which clips are optimized and which are not in the new version?

I am at version 17, among the data options of the bin I do not find optimize media, I tried to optimize from the timeline or from the bin without being applied after processing, what am I doing wrong?

It's a nice feature, but it seems like it would eat up a lot of ram and hard drive space.

Hello you can tell me why my soundtrack is not moved in the timeline (link clips is activated).
For example, if I move an image clip up a track from v1 to v2 then the sound from the clip to A1 stays with me and does not switch to A2.
So sound just doesn't run into the lower track.
Something I must have adjusted... just what?
