VISUAL CONTEXT
On the left is the video as captured by the camera played as half speed. In the middle is a contrast enhanced version using sequential frame differencing. Here you can see thermal flows due to body heat very clearly and also the turbulent jet due to coughing. On the right is an optical flow analysis of the flow velocity. The magnitude is indicated by the colour bar.
This testing follows on from:
Face Coverings, Aerosol Dispersion and Mitigation of Virus Transmission Risk
"Within the limits of this work, these results revealed some key
relative differences between face covers that can aid policy makers to make informed decisions and PPE developers to improve their product effectiveness by design."
MASKS 4 ALL IRELAND DETAILS
The mask style was designed and developed using details and research from pre-existing styles, feedback from health care professionals and research available since SARS and MERS.
The purpose of the project was to fill the supply gap of masks to residential and community based care since March 23rd with this carefully developed cloth mask - designed to fit the face, provide a pocket for a kitchen towel filter, water repellent spunbond polypropylene (where necessary), and robustly constructed withstand multiple daily boil washes.
Mary Murphy, the lead on the Masks 4 All Ireland project is a Wicklow native but married and living in Northern Ireland. She has an MEng in Aeronautical Engineering from Queen's University of Belfast and is the creative director of Síoda Lingerie where she specialises in making bespoke, engineered backless lingerie to help brides who struggle to invisibly support their bodies, whatever their size, so they can confidently wear the dress of their dreams.
