For those curious what separates Egyptian cotton from regular cotton: they're essentially two different plants. Regular cotton belongs to the hibiscus family, whereas Egyptian cotton belongs to the mallow (a type flower) plant.

I thought the only difference was because one grew in Egypt 😅 but I was wrong. They both essentially grow cotton fibers, but Egyptian cotton (sea island cotton) seems to be more desirable and valuable, whereas regular cotton is more affordable.

Мой дед 1917 года рождения. В 50-е и 60-е годы у нас в СССР было много импорта из Египта. Хлопковые изделия. Мой дед старался купить именно египетские рубашки и полотенца. Он умер в 2009 в возрасте 91 года, и он всю жизнь говорил, что лучше египетского хлопка ничего в мире нет.

Я всегда помню его восторженные слова про египетский хлопок. Я слышала это в течение 48-ми лет. Но я никогда такую продукцию в жизни не видела. Я живу на юге Казахстана, это Средняя Азия. У нас много своего хлопка. Много хлопковой продукции из Индии, Китая и Турции(хлопок в Турцию поступает из Туркмении). Но египетского хлопка нет.

Сколько труда требует эта индустрия! Этот шорт заставил меня мечтать о путешествии в Египет ради хлопка!
