I don't think some people realise that there's a difference between trolling your friends and being a legitimate menace on hard-working people. If they really think that all those days, weeks and months spent on these digital buildings means nothing, then shame on them, not realising that this is more than just a game at this point.

It honestly baffles me how there are NO backups of these world maps. Even if the Teamleader has the original save file, there NEEDS to be another one on a save server, were other people can download it. Always have a backup when you do such big projects. It doesnt matter if the person who is in charge, can be trustet ( see Pippen ), even these people can make mistakes and delete the whole map. I know these maps are massive but what did you expect when you were creating the whole world? Get some HDDs with some TB and save more versions of your world on there. Then griefers cant do shit und you always have a backup when save files get corrupted or other stuff happens.

I feel like individual people shouldn't be able to just ruin everything.

Like at least make the leader send backups to other people or something like that.

To avoid this happening again, multiple people should have backups of each area.

Just like what happened when Denmark was built in Minecraft a couple of years ago, people are beginning to find oil

This build the world project is awesome. It's kind of weird knowing that eventually a complete stranger to me will be building my house.

BuildTheEarth

Pro: Earth is massive, so hard to grief
Con: Earth is massive, so hard to make

You should lock zones to prevent griefing when they have been finished and only un lock when its really necesary

One person no matter how trustworthy should not hold the only server save for an entire continent.

Mistakes can happen, things can change, for a project this massive and well planned i dont see how its possible that they overlooked such a massive thing like this.

I can excuse griefing, but this... this is unforgivable

Might wanna have a place where all the maps can be backed up, but only YOU, Pippen, can do things like deleting files. Somewhere other people can upload or download, but only YOU can do more than that. You seem to be absolutely committed to the project, so it stands to reason that you can be trusted with all of it.

If I had a nickel for everytime a 1:1 replica of a part of the Earth got griefed, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

I think there should be several back ups, but not only under 1 person to not let this incident happen again, so that if one of the builders of a group goes rogue, then the others still has a back up

As someone who helped construct the greater Seattle area, I am aware how many people put hundreds of hours of effort into it, and it’s a shame people do this, but not surprising

This is what I’m thinking right now:
These buildings look so good, even when they’re blown up they look like what would happen if something happened to a city in real life, kind of surreal in a sense…

This is why I hate griefers, they just ruin history and everything

I feel like there should be a rule where the teams have to turn in a backup of the world every week to be put in a safe drive or something of the sort

A couple of the greatest flaws of this project are that there are no automated backup systems, and the anti grief systems are lacking. If Florida is wiped out, they should be able to revert to a backup made the day prior. Also, it should have an anti grief system where if you destroy more than two skyscrapers or so worth of blocks in a certain amount of time, it will disable your destroy/build privileges and create a flag for moderators until a moderator can review what you're doing. Also, why are people not properly vetted to get into this? Creating clone armies of bots should not be possible if every person/account is individually vetted over a microphone. Even the discord should have a waiting lobby, where you can't comment unless you're manually approved to after being vetted over a microphone. This would prevent discord spams. Then you'll be given a rank where you can access the rest of the discord. There's also no proper chain of command here. Only one trusted person, preferably with someone who has valid professional real world experience, should have full control over all servers so they can't be hijacked or randomly shut down.

Also, if people put thousands of hours of work towards a server you own and you don't want to work anymore, at least give them the files.. Your inability to press forward due to lack of care, life, or personal problems shouldn't force grief on other people. Its not difficult to understand.
