Reimagining Music Lessons - How a Hybrid Model Has Transformed My Teaching Forever

A Shift to Online Learning:

I spent the summer of 2020 planning for the possibility that Covid-19 Pandemic would require remote music teaching. In the past I had been skeptical about online music lessons, and so I had a lot to learn. Like many teacher, I was new to online learning, so I also talked with students and families, teachers and colleagues around the country, and worked closely with the Technology Department at Ithaca College to get a better sense of how it can work at its best. Those conversations lead me to reimagine both lessons and learning. As a result, my students and I have built something new that leverages both the opportunities of online learning, and also addresses the needs of students during this pandemic.

If we could magically download a vaccine on our smart phones today, and inoculate everyone, and resume “normal life”, I would not be able to jettison the benefits of this new learning model. We can't wait to combine this approach with in-person learning. In the meantime, it’s been really fun to be working on something that feels like it is, or like it might evolve to be, even better than it was before.

I really like the idea of a "second teaching attempt" and have used it often in providing feedback to students while teaching in the flipped model. Do you have any follow up findings or videos of how this model has been implemented or what aspects would benefit from further manipulation or modification?
