Sometimes, we hear people say 'yep' and 'nope'. Often, they are one-word sentences. So why do people use them?

There are a few reasons like making the conversation feel less serious, and to show that you don't want to give a reason (no but). But the main way people use it is to show they are not interested, or to end a conversation.

"Do you want to go the cinema with me tonight?"
"Nope."

It's a little rude, but it's common. Remember, it's important to learn rude and offensive English. You don't have to use it, but you should know if someone uses it with you.

So they add a P to words that have a P in them? Weird.
