Canada welcomes unlimited amount of Ukrainian refugees, but non-Ukrainians left out

#NEWSYOUCANUSE: Canada is expediting the process for Ukrainians seeking refuge in Canada, but the new system doesn't help those who are not Ukrainian citizens. While many people are asking why the government isn't better supporting non-Ukrainians trying to flee Ukraine, they also want to know why the government hasn't done something similar for people fleeing war in other countries. As a social worker that works with refugees and new comers to Toronto, I know how lengthy and expensive the process is. It’s REALLY hard not to be giving our immigration ministers a side eye 😒

This hurts in a way that I don't want it to. "It's a bit of a trigger for some Canadians" ... "Is Canada going to keep the same energy the next time such an event is taking place in a non-Euro-centric country?" Are we all Human Beings or not?

I am a tax payer too in Canada I need to bring my family refugee in Africa. I pray for Ukranian but we seeking for equal rights for colored people

What about refugees from Yemen, Palestine, countries in South America, etc…

There's a legitimate argument to this though and that is family/organizational sponsorships. Because Ukrainian-Canadians are the largest group of Ukrainians outside of Russia and Ukraine they have a lot of money and organizations to privately support Ukrainian refugees which means the financial burden on the government/public purse is lighter (there are also electoral benefits to be had given those numbers). I think an argument exists when there is a huge humanitarian crisis in say India or The Philippines or China where this will ultimately be tested. Refugees need more supports than traditional immigrants because they may not speak the languages (French or English) and thus are not able to immediately enter the workforce. They may not have skills that equate to the job market either. Sure a double standard on the face of things exists, but if you talk to the government this is why. Also, a huge number of Ukrainian refugees have signalled their intention to return to Ukraine once the conflict is over. This is more about money (saving the government some of the fees by having private sponsors) and votes (getting the support of such a large ethnic vote) than it simply is about skin colour.

I saw some of these Ukrainian refugees are getting into Denmark and Belgium. Can Americans go over to western Ukraine and then get on a train like we're fleeing Ukraine and talk with a Ukrainian accent and then migrate into those awesome progressive countries with nordic healthcare systems? I'm there!! I learned the accent from the Schmenge brothers...
