LIVING IN GHANA IS HARD... THIS IS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED!
Ghana is one of the safest countries within Africa and so its no surprise a lot of people have shown keen interest in visiting Ghana or moving to Ghana. Fortunately, the country does not, or only rarely, experience the tensions that plague many other multiethnic nations in Africa; the different ethnicities have managed to remain in a state of relatively peaceful coexistence throughout the nation’s recent history. I personally moved to Ghana from the diaspora about 4 years ago. In this video I share with you somethings I have learned about living here in Ghana. I talk to you about whether its better to rent or live in Ghana? Health needs? Shopping in Ghana as well as the best way to make the most out of your travels to Ghana.

My name is Jasmine and I have relocated from Sydney Australia to Ghana in west Africa as of the year 2020.
My parents are of Ghanaian descent although I was born in Australia. Here on my channel, my goal is to give you a real glimpse into what it’s like to live in Ghana and other parts of Africa, from the food, to the culture, to the lifestyle and everything in between. My goal is to satisfy your curiosity about Ghana and other African countries.
My prayer is that these videos do just that for several African’s in the diaspora.
Follow your bliss because life is short, follow your bliss because human life has no intrinsic value, follow your bliss because everything happens for the greater good and follow your bliss because it has all happened before.

This was a good unbiased and objective from the perspective of someone moving in from the west.

I am an American. I have been here almost 2 years and I can tell you it has been a living hell dealing with the housing in Accra. You have to be willing to spend up $2000 a month for an apartment and more for a house and make sure that it has unlimited water and electricity, and a generator. The landlords do not care about you. They will take your money and lie to you and it is normal business here in Ghana. I speak from experience. I am a world traveler. This is of course if you want your place on a paved road. Cheaper places on dirt and muddy roads.

I appreciate the "building your network" advice; I'd always thought of that as making friends with people with whom I share something in common (hobbies, travel, etc.), but expanding the scope to include daily interactions with people in shops and restaurants makes SO much sense...thanks for sharing a perspective I was totally missing!

Also, I just wanted to compliment the quality of your video production; the combination of shooting concise statements and using a b-roll camera sets it head and shoulders apart from all-too-common "choppy" videos.

It is important that you discuss, wifi, water and the electricity. These are all things that you must get use to. It can be a turn off, if you do not know any better.

Life is short !! Happy to see this now, even though I already visited Ghana Dec 28 2024-jan 8 2025). This is very helpful info and some I knew after my 1st visit. I'll be returning in Aug for a wedding, and then looking to possibly relocate there. I def want to move out of the US.

I’m planning my first trip to Africa next spring and I’m researching some countries that I may want to visit. You’ve done a great job of giving out valuable information. Very honest and detailed info about some potential experiences travelers may have. I’m glad that I found your video. Thank you.

It's also good to understand what happens in a country when the global economy takes a nosedive. Every country even Western countries experience a transformation when jobs get tight and expats are very visible and easy targets you should know before you move

In my opinion, this is your best video yet. First of all you look amazing, the locations you shot from are beautiful, the advice you gave was spot on and the warnings were very valid. When you said the dirt roads and getting around can be exhausting, it now makes sense to me why I was always tired there. (Been 6 times) I always attributed it to the heat. I know you focus on affordable luxury, but how about a look at other areas they will have to go through to get to the high end places. That may shock foreigner. They should be prepared because if they are not, they will complain very badly. People should really do plenty of research before traveling to a foreign country. And don’t go there looking for things you have at home. Stay home for that. Experience the culture and differences because it will humble you and make you realize how much you dont really need so much to be happy. (Sorry, I went off subject). Great video

Thank you for this helpful video. As a note, the roads abroad are FAR from perfect. Quiet as its kept, the infrastructure in the States is disintegrating and falling apart.

A great video Jasmine. The last point is very important, Ghana thrives on the 'whom you know' ideology👍
