Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)

Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP)

✔️ STP is a network protocol used in Ethernet networks to prevent loops in the network topology. Loops can be problematic in Ethernet networks because they can lead to broadcast storms and other issues that can disrupt network communication.

STP works by creating a loop-free logical topology within a network of interconnected switches.

The STPs are now standardized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
#ieee It is now referred to as STP (802.1D)
Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP: IEEE 802.1w)

Here are some key points about the Spanning Tree Protocol:
Loop Prevention
Root Bridge
Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDU)
Redundancy

Port States:
Blocking
Listening
Learning
Forwarding
