I Made The Worlds Longest Hacksaw..... Does It Work?

G'day everyone,

As a lot of you might have noticed, I do a lot of my stock cutting with my trusty hacksaw. Its cheap, gives me a good workout and it gets the job done. However I can say with a high degree of confidence that doing it this way takes quite a long time.

To try and speed up the process I might have made the worlds longest hacksaw. It is 1.5m long and uses a metal bandsaw blade.

This is not a hugely serious video, although i was curious to see how a 1.5m long hacksaw might fare. I hope you enjoy the video

G'day everyone. I hope you enjoy this less serious video. I had a lot of fun making it.
Stay tuned for a video on the flood coolant set up. Its not typical for a small mill and there is a good amount of stuff to cover. Cheers

I love this. "My shop is to small for a band saw." "This hack saw is too long to use in my shop."

🤣 This is the most amazing troll response to our pestering him to get a horizontal bandsaw ever! Love it!

Love it. Watching you cut big pieces of metal with a hacksaw is the only exercise I get, so please don't stop!

Turn the blade around and make it a pull saw. It will flex less (maybe)

Love it! Next I think you need a two-person Monster hacksaw, like the old-timey tree felling saws.

You'll be in the next Guinness Book of world records for longest hacksaw.
Easy fix just add some blade guides to the vice!

I am so glad this is a lesson I could learn from you, instead of fabricating one of my own.

"Regular hacksaw blades won't cut it".

😂 You're a funny guy!

For the size work you do, a handheld bandsaw would be perfect.especially if you get a vertical stand to use it like a standard bandsaw. Or get a stand to use it like a chop saw

Yeah the unsung hero of my workshop is a big Do-All bandsaw capable of 230mm cuts. After making my way by hand and grinder through 80mm stock one day I'd had enough. It's scary how much blade tension it needs though.

Alright, I’ll stop bugging you about the power hacksaw. But I still think it would have been a great project.

Oh my god, this is mad and amazing. 😂 As for effectiveness, I can't speak to blade tension, but for the weight (or lack thereof) problem, you could maybe fill that big length of box tubing with sand or lead weights or something?

Cordless band saw for %85 of my cuts. Clean, fast, and compact. Worth every penny!

Pro tip (got it from TOT):

At 2:20, use your lathe to travel to the future to borrow the longer hacksaw and cut that piece with it 💪

"I thought Id make the same thing but bigger" is the ultimate bloke logic haha. What about hooking it up to your die filer in some way and making a reciprocating saw?

🙄😁😅😅😅😅 good one! Just FYI we had one those exact hacksaws for years, the only problem with them is the adjustment "cam", ours snapped one day🤨 and all we could do is scrap it 😮‍💨 as far as hacksaws go, it was our favorite, can't find one like it, but we like our bandsaws these days😁

Well, I sure watched to the end. I think experiments like this are really very interesting.
