Doug Basham was a great worker in his own right . Great attitude and really smooth in the ring

I agree, Doug is star quality for sure and never got the story line he deserved.

2010: He's a pretty good worker. He's a pretty good talent.

2013: I think he really is one of the best in the business today.

I met Doug and I have his autograph, he's a super nice guy. I was with a few friends and he waited while he was having breakfast so we could get his autograph.

...that being said, there are basically 3 really big wrestling markets right now - Japan, Mexico, and America... which means to even be among the best in ONE of those markets still puts you in a pretty small bracket, and in very elite company... so even by being among the best in the American market, as most smart fans would agree he is, I'd still say he's worth of being considered "among the best" - and since nobody can truly name one best, that's the most anyone can reallty hope for.

I wasn't listing off every wrestler I knew, I just listed the few that generally get thrown around when people bring up the best. Any time I've heard people talk about who the best was for the last year, it's been one of those four names. Clearly all of those others are great workers. Hell, I could add a whole bunch more to that list if I wanted to... but I wasn't trying to name a top 20, just the first names that have come up in most lists.

Worker in wrestling doesn't relate to in ring work (That's what work rate is), it means you're a good employee. That means if the booker, creative or whoever sticks you in a spot or feud you make it work.

@DarkDrunkard Jericho was the heel though. I think the last time a heel won a title 100% clean was when Vader took the WCW title from Sting in like, 1992.

I'd really be curious as to who you think IS then. Obviously there's no scientific way of proving one "best" but when you ask those really in the know who the best are right now he's definitely in the conversation. The names most often mentioned right now are Punk, Bryan, Aries and Angle... and given opinion, I think it's safe to say if you're in the first 5-10 names mentioned by the majority, you're well within your rights to be considered 'the best".

One of the biggest missed opportunities in terms of talent in recent years

@edenfire His reign as Undisputed Champion was just over three months.

And while I'm not gonna deny that Jericho has lots of other things to brag about, in winning that title, he went over the Rock and Stone Cold in 2 straight falls. Most people haven't gone over Stone Cold. Not many have gone over The Rock. Even fewer have gone over both. Jericho, and Jericho ALONE, went over both of them in a single night. That's pretty impressive.

youtube video "Jim Cornette Shoots On Johnny Ace" is fantastic, and the Doug Basham story is a highlight

@DarkDrunkard No, Jericho was the heel. It was a little bit out of whack because the invasion was going on at the time, so Jericho had to be on the same side as the Rock, but Jericho was 100% a heel at this time.

The Bashams were one of the last good solid tag teams in the wwe. Now the tag division sucks and when they do occasionally put emphasis on it, they pair together guys that make no sense together. The Bashams, La Resistance, Kane & Rvd, haas & Benjamin, etc were the last of the good days of the tag division. Kane has been one of the only things giving the division meaning years the last 5 years or so
