The bizarre one about the Rwanda policy is how on the one hand they claim it's a deterrent (that has been proved not to work) and on the other they say Rwanda is a lovely place and they'll love it there. It's classic Double Think

This is actually genius, the Tories are going to make the country so terrible to live in no one will want to come here. 5D political chess.

As an Australian...it just keeps getting more cruel, more secretive and harder to find information....that is the point. Doctors tried to refuse allowing children in SEVERE mental and physical ill health because it goes against their oath and morals. There were threats that these doctors may face prosecution.

It won't stop getting more cruel.

As the saying goes, the cruelty is the point.

14:54 their 5 pledges just reveal how incompetent the tories are.
"Increase economic growth" when they are responsible for 13 years of low growth
"Reduce NHS wait times" when their mismanagement of the NHS has increased wait times.
"Reduce inflation by half" when their economic incompetence made it so high
"Reduce the debt" when they have doubled it
"Stop the boats" when they created the boats problem

It's genuinely unbelievable 5 pledges which show how they have ruined this nation.

As an aussie this rhetoric is sadly all familiar. I've been hearing this racist fear mongering for 22 bloody years out of my short 29 on this world.

The irony that they have created a law due to what they perceive as too many people breaking the law, yet the law itself is actually breaking the law.

It's really telling to me that when people who DO support these policies give their reasons why, it's always tinged with resentment - "how do you justify putting these people in 5 star hotels on the taxpayers dime while retirees freeze because they can't afford electricity?", as if that isn't the direct result of the Tories' own anti-migrant, anti-civil infrastructure projects.

let also not forget how much indonesia was against the 'Stop The Boats' policy of australia tantowi yahya, described it as "offensive" and australia even apologised to indonesia for violating its waters, they even found two royal australian navy frigates had crossed into Indonesian territory four times

The fact that the conservative party is still in power is an embarrassment.

“You cannot have Rwanda again because information would come out far more quickly about what is actually going on, and the public opinion would grow to the point where action would need to be taken”
--Gordon Brown

5:31 also in exchange for sending asylum seekers to Rwanda, Rwanda is allowed to send asylums seekers to Britain. So it's not even reducing the number of asylum seekers in the UK which the plan was to be, it's just a waste of money to be cruel to desperate people.

"The absolute state of Britain" probably would have done the job, let's be honest. At the same time that half of our public services are striking, this is what the government think is important.

Not so much virtue-signalling as viciousness-signalling

One of the insidious parts of the Australian system is that anytime a boat was intercepted the govt would not release any information about it, they called it an 'on water matter'. Eventually the reporters stopped asking and everyone assumed the boats stopped coming. As an Australian I am so ashamed of the direction we are going.

I've seen comments about "why do we put them up in hotels when the French put them in tents" by people who think that the campsites where they go to attempt to cross the channel are official French government facilities.

...We put them up in hotels because the government didn't invest in either public housing or infrastructure but has a lot of mates who own hotels. The people at the camp sites often have beds or rooms allocated in French facilities or even apartments but they know that they can work cash in hand in the UK for capitalists who want to exploit their situation because we don't have ID cards.

There was an Australian reality TV show "Go Back To Where You Came From" It would be interesting, informative, and though provoking if we in the UK had a version of it too: "The series followed two parties, each of six Australians, all members having differing opinions on Australia's asylum seeker debate, being taken on a journey in reverse to that which refugees have taken to reach Australia." Maybe Suella could be one of the first contestants.

The government don't care about the traffickers, otherwise they would have simply offered asylum seekers free ferry tickets.

Here's my solution:
- Make a centre in France that takes a basic look into the asylum seekers claims, if they sound as if their experiances could make them eligible then give them subsidised transport to the UK.
- In the UK we hire a lot more civil servents to process claims.
- Asylum seekers who have their claims accepted are then offered English lessons and apprenticeships in, in demand industries like construction and social care.

"Law and order"

The people who crow the loudest about law and order are not referring to the actual laws on the books. They are endorsing a hierarchy. Freedom for themselves, "law and order" for the other.

The Rwanda thing is one of the most horrific and cruel policies I've ever seen from a UK government.
