LABORATORY SAFETY GUIDELINES

Laboratory sessions described in this manual use chemicals, such as strong acids and bases, that are dangerous if handled improperly. Some lab sessions use an open flame or other heat sources, and many use glassware. To state the obvious, you can get hurt working in a lab. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to minimize or eliminate hazards. Remember this: If there is even the slightest chance that you will be exposed to any hazardous chemical, always wear chemical splash goggles, gloves, and protective clothing. We follow this advice ourselves, without exception.
