WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A SCHOOL BUS BREAKS DOWN?

That reminds me of when I was driving my UPS truck down the street and it died while I was driving it. Because it was saturday there were no mechanics working in the station and my supervisor was convinced it was a battery issue. I tried to explain to her that a battery issue won’t make it die while it’s running, but she being the stubborn person she is didn’t listen to me so I sat there for an hour while she tried jumpstarting the truck. I never found out what was wrong with it but my best guess was it was a fuel delivery issue because it was a 3 year old truck and it had no issue cranking.

I’m a bus aide on a special needs bus but one time the belt came off the engine when we were driving and the temperature went up to 230 degrees! The bus had to be towed and the transportation director brought us a spare bus to use. The bus is a 2011 IC CE with a Maxxforce DT. So far the belt coming off has been the only major issue it’s had.

I work for a district fleet and bus breakdowns are super fun. Having to bring a spare bus and the service truck and deciding whether to tow the bus or push it with the service truck if we couldn’t get the bus running.

Once i was a student on a bus and a 4 inch Branch came down and went right through the curved part of the windsheld, but driver was ok, we had to get out and wait for another bus to pick us up, then that bus that picked us up started leaking oil everywhere at a traffic light, we were late for 2 hours lol

I have only had one bus that I’ve been a student on break down, and there was smoke coming from the back of the bus, and other kids was yelling at the bus driver about it.

This is reminding me of one time when I was riding the bus home with middle schoolers since the bus was late for them, while we were being driven the bus broke down in the middle of the road and it caused traffic. I asked the driver what happened and she said the ecu fell out while the bus was running. That was the only breakdown I've seen apart from a new electric bus breaking down 4 times.

When I was riding the bus when in high school everyone noticed the bus driver was driving slow but didn’t see why. It turns out when we looked behind us the bus was blowing white smoke. Eventually she stopped and waited for the mechanic to come where then he drove it for a minute before he stopped and got us a new bus. The next day we were told that it blew a turbo.

The school system of my city sends kids to the capital of our state for band competitions and others. Whenever a bus breaks down there (3 hours away), they send mechanics from our garage to tow it back because they refuese to use a tow truck from there.

When I was in high school we had the brakes on the bus I rode home in go out once, it was... 2004? It was the last 2 stops, a class mate, then me and my siblings. The plan was to go by the classmates house as slow as possible, he jump out, run inside and call the school or anyone for help, this was before everyone had cellphones. Well miraculously, we were able to stop, so kid didn't have to tuck and roll, he ran inside to call for help, but then the driver thought we might be able to make it. So we start going towards our stop, and again, brakes stop working. So we are going along this rural road, no brakes, and right before the highway, we stop. Thankfully the driver decided nope, and they turned the bus off and we waited for the school to send someone out and take us to our grandma's. Fun times.

Reminds me of when I was going to school one time, when I was younger and still rode the bus, and my bus broke down right around the corner from my home after picking me up so they had to send a replacement bus to pick us up and take us to school.

Had the coolant issue on three separate cars. The first car the part for the coolant didn’t work especially during winter, the second car it failed at some point while my mom was driving the car I’m just surprised she got home without any issues other than than the part failing and leaking the liquid inside the car(smelled really bad), and the third car sometime after I got home I noticed a liquid leak on the ground under the car and it wasn’t till later that I found out the part for the coolant failed and leaked. All three of those cars were used and two of them were at least 20 years old and one was 10 years old.

I remember when I was in middle school, the bus I was taking was able to move a foot after everyone got on. Had to get a different bus. The mechanic the bus company had looked at everything and said he couldn't understand what happened

I was on a bus in Michigan city when I was in 5th grade, and the engine overheated. Smelled like burning bacon, and started smoking (it was a flat front bus so the engine cover was next to the front door) it lost power to the point that it couldnt make it up the hill at a 2°grade. We ended up with a new bus the next day. I assume something went horribly wrong.
