I'm Building a Pick And Place!

Показать описание
After soldering 3,000 components by hand for the Glowtie Kickstarter, I've decided to build a pick and place! I bought an OpenBuilds Acro 55 for the X and Y axis, then I'm using a RAMPS board with Marlin Firmware for a controller. At some point, I'll integrate OpenPNP into the mix for actually telling the machine what to do. Then, I'll design custom pick and place feeder assemblies to supply components for placing. There's a lot to do!

Decided to rewatch this after finishing my LumenPNP kit. Insane how far it's developed in just two years

From touch capacity electric tea lights to pick and place machines, your channel has projects everyone can enjoy! Damn, dude. This is amazing!

lol, the little pause in music when you click closed the wago lever locks was perfect. Great video, love your tidy workshop.

If you install a tool rack, you could have an interchangeable head stock. This would allow you to create a 3 axis multi-tool arrangement. Drill head, router head, solder paste head, suction head and hot air solder head. You could also have interchangeable tools, such as different size suction heads for different components and different nozzles for soldering different components.

Just a heads up, you should take a look at OpenPnP. I haven't used it personally, but from what I can gather, it's a program that generates the gcode based on your board layout/machine configuration, sends that gcode to a Smoothieboard, does the CV to verify images from the cameras, etc. It's another tool to learn (where you're obviously experienced with GRBL/Marlin already), but it'll probably save you a lot of development time in the long run.

For a simple strip-feeder solution, I'd just cut it in 1ft lengths, clamp it to the work surface, and peel the clear film off. It'll require more reloads, but that's fine for development purposes.

awesome video as always!
It was a really smart move to use a the cnc machine body as a base!
looking forward to more episodes of this build

Try replacing the toy motors with 200/400w motors and fix the gantry properly so it won't shake.
Sooner or later you'll hit the 5-10k cph limit

Sweet project! This part was a sucksess and I'm sure the next part will exfeeder expectations.

You will likely smoke your RAMPS with that setup. The motor is a highly inductive load and doesn’t like changes in current. As a result, you will see voltage spikes when turning off the motor that can kill the mosfet controlling it. You need to add what’s called a fly back diode across the pump motor to counteract this.

Hello, do you make customized CnCs? I would need a pick and place too, but higher and to pick 1cm-wide objects (6 grams max) :)

Thanks for bringing us along this journey. Looking forward to how you handle feeders. There are a couple really good Google groups with information and like minded people building PNP's. Search "OpenPNP" and "Desktop Pick and Place" Google groups.
