I have always loved this song… Of course written for his former wife Sara, they had children together, were married for years… Bob couldn’t be faithful but he was always good to those children and deep down he loves Sara…
His weakness in cheating with other women cost him his marriage… That along with the drugs and drinking, but I believe deep down Dylan will always love Sarah to his grave.
Another beautiful song written for Sara is called ‘Sad eyed Lady of the lowlands’. This entire ‘Desire album is so good! ❤️‍🩹

What is unjust is that Dylan sold his musical rights for less than Springsteen. Yes Springsteen is great but his writing isn’t even in the same league as Dylan’s . Not even close.
