Fabric Coasters Tutorial! Free Pattern For Your Cricut Maker! Quick, Fun, Useful Gift Idea.

Happy December everyone! Today we are working on some last minute gift ideas. This project is a great way to use up fabric scraps and charm squares. Fabric coasters are fun to make, incredibly useful, and can be personalized in unique ways.

I've also provided a free pattern to piece together an adorable tree coaster. Check the OklaRoots website for the pattern, as well as a free SVG file for all you Cricut Maker users!

QUILTING TIP: To avoid the bunching of threads at the beginning of quilt lines follow these viewer provided tips below!
- Use a feeder fabric first. Run a scrap piece of fabric through the machine, and then run your quilt under the needle (don't clip the feeder piece first).
- Hold the top and bobbin threads before you start sewing. To do this, make sure you aren't using an automatic thread cutter (they pull the bobbin thread back under the face plate, making it hard to reach).

Happy Sewing!

I have been sewing since I was 12 years old. My mom taught me everything. So your instructions are right on. I don’t see why some people have a hard time with your instructions. You are a awesome teacher. Thanks you for sharing your video with all of us. Awesome Job!!!

Sitting at my sewing table yesterday, with coffee mug in hand, wondering why I don’t have any coasters on the table, and then I saw this video pop up. Thanks Jess.

Loving your style... new subbie!
Been sewing/quilting for years. Ordering my Cricut Maker this week - can’t wait 😊

LEADERS AND ENDERS are a lifesaver. Use scraps of fabric/batting to start off and end. All of those pesky threads end up on those pieces instead of your actual project 👍😊 I always use leaders and enders, especially when piecing a million half square triangles 🤣

Something I learned many quilts ago... start with a small scrap piece and end with one. Never have that problem again 🤗

Mathematician—OMG that’s why you’re such a fantastic teacher/YouTuber....I just found your videos a couple of weeks ago and I have been watching them. I love your technique for sewing the binding strips together. Thank-you!

One way to prevent the thread tangles at the beginning and end of stitching is to use a scrap leader/ender piece. Excellent video!

I love your coaster pattern! Your instructions are spot on and make it easy to follow. I have had my Cricut Maker for 3 years and have yet to make anything with it out of fear & intimidation...obviously a personal problem. Thank you for walking me through the Christmas coasters with the Cricut Maker. It's exactly what I needed to have some confidence. I need more of these. Thank you so much!

Jess, I came across your utube channel accidentally. I love the coaster idea, perfect way to use smaller pieces of our fabric stash. Your video and instructions are very clear and concise and easy to understand . The addition of the cricut instructions adds a wonderful dimension to make a very nice gift. I'm a Fan for sure! Thanks!

I am jumping up and down with joy about your binding technique. I make mug rugs and even though they are a little bigger I still have a problem joining them. Thank you. LOVE the idea of using none liked fabrics for the binding. In the end yours looked great. Cannot wait to see what you come up with next

Either pulling thread toward the back right or even holding the thread before starting to sew prevents the thread from getting caught in stitching. I noticed in precious videos you cut thread and leave thread where its at and begin stitching... I was like how does her thread not get caught in stitching or come out of needle!?! Then I saw this 😂😂😂 Love your vids and glad to have an opportunity to comment. Youve taught me so much already! ❤❤❤ ~ Dawn
