Dude, I just got my lab/pit mix last August from a local shelter.

She was the only one that was curled up In the back of her kennel, shaking and trying not to be noticed. Covered in scars head to toe.

I said, that's my girl, right there. I need her, maybe she needs me too.

She is now the goofiest, sweetest pup ever. She's still unsure of other ppl and takes her awhile to warm up to others but I'm so grateful she's in my life.

Couldn't ask for a better buddy♥

I took care of a dog just like this one for 11 years. She passed away a year and a half ago from cancer. Yes, they can adjust. It's slow, but when they do show their personality, it's the best thing. Once they know you "approve" of their behavior, quirks, and all, it's like an open door that was one locked and bolted shut just suddenly shatters wide open. I wish I could adopt him. He's so adorable.

I love that you started with gently tossing treats into the kennel first to see if he would take them, then gradually got closer and closer until you were able to hand feed him. Your patience is so admirable and it’s exactly what this dog needs.
