The first fish I caught at 9 years old was a Red Gurnard. Half fish-half crustacean.

In New Zealand we simply call them gurnard. They rate as one of the most popular eating fish, preferred by many to snapper.

I saw one of these about 20 years ago and have never been able to figure out what it was until now. It was amazing. It was just chillin on the ocean floor when my family snorkeled over it and it unfurled its fins. Thanks for solving the mystery!
