Legacy of final Soviet Union leader Gorbachev commemorated in German parliament | DW News

German lawmakers have been paying tribute to the last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev during a commemorative session of parliament.

The Bundestag's president, Bärbel Bas, delivered a speech in his honour. And the parliament observed a minute's silence for Gorbachev who was buried in Moscow last week. Gorbachev's reform policies led to the end of the Cold War and to the reunification of East and West Germany.

Bärbel Bas reflected on Gorbachev's legacy.

Gorbachev was communist and he believed to reform communism , to avoid collapse of USSR, but Communism always fail . That why he was removed by Jelcin and whole comm. party out of power. Unite Germany was unavoidable Gorbachev couldn't repeat 1968 Czechoslovakia because there was revolution already 1989.

Thank you for the war between Ukraine and Russia and the opportunity for Germany to introduce heavy weapons into Ukraine.
