Trading Losses, Trading Psychology & losing money trading Options Trading & Stock Market Trading: Emotional Toll

Trading and making money is NOT easy.

And... there are emotional tolls / psychological impacts of trading

------

------

There are ups & downs.

How will you react if you lose 10% of your account size in a day?

While extremely rare, it can happen and lead to massive trading losses (temporary).

No one ever wants to lose money trading.

Will you get depressed or anxious?

On October 24, 2018, I lost ~10% of my account size.

I've had this happen before.

When it does, I've learned how to get through it without letting it impact me that much.

The biggest reason is that I have complete, 100%, confidence that I'll be able to recover from any losses.

Remember that you have to bend and not break.

While you'll always lose money by day trading (day trading) selling penny stocks and trading forex (for ex) even options traders who sell premium will experience ups and downs.

You will have good months and bad months.

Prior to February 2018, I made money every month for ~2 years straight by selling premium.

In 2018, I have incurred losses in some months.

That's what you should expect when trading.

Having healthy investing psychology is important.

You will not win all the time.

Or... you can try to win all the time and then you'll end up losing money.

Options trading for beginners or trading in the stock market for beginners seems easy.

Can you handle the psychological stress and depression that goes along with losing money?

Losing money by trading doesn't even enter your mind

You should always consider your trading losses when evaluating strategies.

Trading the stock market cannot be predicted.

There is volatility and if you don't prepare for that, then you will not learn how to make money in the stock market.

Options trading requires discipline and there is no easy money for traders who decide to trade options.

Stock market trading is not easy. Remember that some options strategies are better than others.

The only way to be a successful with stock investing is by selling stock option premium, it's the best stock strategy.

I teach you about call options, put options, credit spreads & options strategies

Learn to make consistent profits in the stock market with the best options strategies.

Make money in the stock market by selling option premium.

The hardest thing to cope with in trading is losses. As soon as you accept losses as part of trading the real transformation begins. good video. thanks for sharing.

Any loss comes with the opposite emotional effects of gains. With gains your happy and positive with loss your depressed and negative. Dealing with 10 years of gains and loss has taught me to have a mindset to understand every trade has an equal potential of loss and gain. There are no sure things in this life. One thing I do that helps me is a little ritual I do. Every trade I make I acknowledge the fact that this trade could result in loss. No matter how hot or long my streak is, every trade I do this and it helps mentally prepare myself for a possible loss. Try It. I works for me anyways.lol

Just do some chinups after each trade regardless of profit/loss.

I forgot to originally comment on this video, but this is probably your most important video, especially given the volatility in October.

Those new to stocks and trading definitely need to understand how emotional this can be it does improve with time / experience, and when you're down a lot, you realize how much risk tolerate you are or aren't (and realize you've taken too much risk ...)

Fantastic. Your honesty is refreshing. I lost $5000 trying to buy calls years ago. Never again unless, when I become a member, you recommend so. Eventually, I'll become trained enough to see that it will be a good move.

I feel for the option sellers on payc today. if you sold the say 250 put say on 10-1-23 its now trading at 151 so the pps is down about $100 per share. Doubt if that can be rolled profitably. The quarter report was not that bad seems like it would be down at the most 20%. Still scary to now sell a put on that one. On the other hand today demonstates why sometimes you can hit a home run buying puts as those guys that bought those 150 puts are up 2900% thats 2 thousand nine hundred percent in one day ! who'da thunk it
stay away. from any symbols with a pay it it, right

Hey David, you say that it’s easier to roll a naked put into a spread, but wouldn’t it be better to roll a vertical into a naked put? This way you actually take profit on the long put and can use that premium to finance a naked put that is further away from the stock price.

The best way to overcome the bad feelings of paper losses is to think long term!! Don’t become disillusioned!! 😎

Just to clarify, when you say I lost money today, did you actually have something expire and actually took a loss or is it just down for the day but the contract is still working?

Hey BesStockStrategy, I like your training videos - I've been working through them all. I've been in options for 9 months. Generally I like weekly over monthly options - but they do have their issues which can make them more dangerous than Monthlies. How do you handle contract adjustments? When your contract strike price is being challenged by an aggressive move in stock price.

Thanks

could you please make a video on how its been for you over the last 2 months in terms managing the loses as in have you rolled or completely exited the trades . would imagine the loses seen would have completely wiped out the yearly gains based on the naked strategy . if thats not the case, please could you explain how you managed to stay alive .Thanks for all the lessons

Day trading has gotten me fairly good earnings to date. I’m successful on about 80-85% of my day trades. But there’s a ceiling to day trading earnings. That’s where options like this can earn you better than the usual 9% a year on s&p 500 ETF’s for your nest eggs over $100k.
