Please interview the students who were next to this offensive person and find out what they did about it. It's just hard to believe a dozen students listened to these attacks for 90 min and sat by silently. If that's really the case then I'm sad that in the comments by holmoe, Olmsted and the official release they did not specifically instruct any person who hears these shouts to report it immediately to security.

Also interview the coach and confirm she was told about the situation and did nothing about it. I'm praying the Duke statement was not 100% accurate. It doesn't make sense.

This entire incident needs a lot more investigation and reporting.

I hate how we talk about this stuff. They helped understand how we can do better? It’s common sense! Anti-racism is not only racist in and of itself, it’s demeaning and degrading to BYU and the of people who had nothing to do with this.

Also, as someone who has experienced racism first hand, this over-acting like a victim is ruining society and the mental toughness of our minority communities. This is not the way to respond.

What did the entire student section and USC chant again? all we got was a one line apology on Twitter.

I bleed blue. I love BYU and what it stands for. They have recently been accused of VERY SERIOUS racial allegations. By accusing BYU, the church it represents is also being accused.

I question BYU’s response to these allegations. They seem to be admitting fault without any evidence that the allegations are true. Why is BYU apologizing, kicking out a fan, making changes to student section seating, etc when there is zero proof that this ever happened? Why are BYU administrators going to believe the word of one volleyball player (who comes from a very racially sensitive and outspoken family with political aspirations) from the opposing team over 5000+ witnesses from your own team who say otherwise? What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Why are you sitting passively letting every major liberal media outlet defame your name and let this university’s reputation be smeared in the mud?

By not acting, BYU appears to be admitting that slurs were said and the allegations are true. Public statements against racism are obvious but not helpful. We need to state clearly that these allegations are being taken seriously, being investigated, but at this point there is NO proof that the allegations are true. Work needs to be done to find out if these allegations are true and be done…yesterday. BYU has lawyers right? BYU needs to stop standing idly by and reacting to potentially false allegations and do everything in their power to expedite a meticulous defamation investigation. Do the following:
1. Interview all the players and coaches under oath on both teams to find anyone else who heard the word ni**er (if it was yelled out loud enough for one to hear, then others would’ve heard as well)
2. Find all the black people who sat in the student section and interview them (if it was said loud enough for someone to hear it on the court then those in the section it allegedly came from would’ve heard it also). While you’re at it, interview as many students of all colors you can that were sitting in the student section and see if a single person substantiates these claims.
3. Review all game film and specifically look for anyone yelling racial slurs.
4. Interview all security personnel that were working the game that night.
5. Offer a large cash reward for anyone who can provide video evidence of someone yelling out racial slurs. Guarantee anonymity. If a student was afraid of coming forward fearful of what other students would think, a financial boost during the poor college years and promise of anonymity would give them a perfect opportunity to come forward. In this day and age when ever person has a high definition video camera in their hands at all times, I find it very hard to believe that if slurs were spewed “every time she served the ball” that not one of the 5000+ people in the small arena would not have got it on camera.

After this thorough investigation, if not one other player or coach, if not one student in the student section, if not one security guard, if not one hint of evidence comes forward on video from security or personal smart phones, then guess what? It didn’t happen! BYU needs to sue the player and university involved for defamation. Millions around the country have had their opinion of BYU negatively influenced by these claims. These allegations hurt everyone involved with the university…sponsors, active players, students, recruits, etc. If there is no proof, then it didn’t happen and justice needs to be served. You cannot let these claims go un-investigated and, if found unsubstantiated, unpunished.

If evidence is found that there were racial slurs, then we do what we’ve done…apologize, make changes to policy, seating, etc and make it right, but if not, then her false claims cannot just be brushed to the side and we all just pretend like it never happened. Because it did happen and what she said was very damaging to our university, our church, the student singled out, our volleyball team and others.

Once we know the allegations are false, then all the world that was mislead needs to also know. Make a video detailing the investigation with clips of those from both teams who were interviewed. Show security footage. Show the advertisements of the large cash reward offered. Explain the painstaking efforts of the investigation and then disperse it to all the media outlets you can. Liberal media and those hungry to promote cases of racism were very eager to spread the allegations with zero proof. We should be more eager to correct the allegation and spread the truth.

There is no excuse for this behavior and, though I cannot know how other students in the student section may or may not have reacted to this when it was first heard, I find it inexcusbale that others would not have ganged up on the one non-student fan and forced that fan to stop immediately, or draw the attention of security officials to see it was dealt with immeidately. That officials, BYU coaching staff, and others who were informed about this racist heckling early and yet did not act immediately is also wrong. Had I been a BYU coach, I would have approached the officials immediately, and the other team's coaching staff, and asked that the match be paused immediately until this "fan" was identified and ejected, and an official apology was offered to the Duke student athletes on the spot. This is a scar on BYU's reputation, and has garnered national exposure, as it should. It will take time and effort to heal. I must say I am disappointed in my alma mater.
