SWECO Round Separator Screening Meat and Bone Meal

Without getting too detailed with the procedure … meat and bone meal (MBM) is obtained through the rendering process of cooking, defatting, grinding and sifting animal by-products.

Primarily, MBM is used in the US as a low-cost animal protein in pet foods. In Europe, the primary use is as a fossil-fuel replacement to generate energy for various industry applications. MBM can also be used as a fertilizer supplying calcium, phosphorus and nitrogen to help enrich the soil.

The final part of the rendering process is the sifting of the by-products after grinding. The sifting stage removes any hair, bone chunks and other larger particles from the meal. Once the meal is screened and any oversize material removed, the MBM can be further processed for its end use.

In this video, check out how the material works its way around the screen in a spiral pattern. This type of pattern enables the material to be exposed to more of the screen surface. This allows for more good material to make its way through the screen mesh, providing a more efficient separation.
