This actually could mean that the different tribes in Natlan have their own kind of “dragon creature” or whatever it is due to the fact that there’s six tribes that was shown in the trailer but only three of them flash a color.
Might be the fact that they’re the only three travelers could ride at the moment when we reach Natlan.
