When we think about futures, we possess both hope and fear, yet we often forget that we also have the power to influence. The futurist and designer Angela Oguntala aims to prove that we can choose futures and can work towards them.

By choosing to be curious about the alternatives and taking them seriously, we can start to think and solve problems in new ways, and we can start to see possibilities where we could not see them before.

Angela Oguntala works with design and futures studies. She thinks about alternative futures and creates plans for how to reach those desired futures.

Excellent talk! This is one of the most important conversations we can have. She's absolutely correct. Our current reality - everything in the human made world that exists was first a thought. We have so much more power to influence future realities than we realize. All the craziness, chaos, hatred murder, hunger, people not getting basic needs met are our creations. We created these conditions with our thoughts, so we can change them to something else if we want. We do this by questioning our limited beliefs, imagining the possibilities and thinking about what we want, and what we don't. It's our to choose.

i am so glad that you've talked about mpesa because so many think that Africa is behind when on many points it's actually way ahead of us (abroad) without funds, equipments and etc..

Of course we agree with innovation and dreams of the future. Many businesses spend millions of dollars on new ideas and research. But the word imagination comes with a negative obstacles as well. Many people have imaginary gods and imaginary hopes for afterlife. Not all of imagination is good especially when others think what they imagine to be true. Technology, cosmology and even knowledge, already force us to imagine a better life. We don't need to imagine fairy tales, we need to imagine reality.

Not to chip in the brain. Not to control of free will. Yes to free will, Yes to freedom of thought, word and deed. We are not machines. We are human beings.
the rest is cool

This talk had no new ideas or ways to think. This was already stated, many times by many.
It rehashed many known ideas and tropes, into a "new" nothing talk.
One of my first disappointing TEDx talks.
