In this episode of Ask David, I answer a question about shooting film at the wrong ISO. This happens all the time, there are lots of ways to correct it. Check below for a link to the Massive Development Chart and listen to the video for a guide on how to use it to compensate for the ISO setting.

I have forgotten to change my ISO in camera when I put in a new roll of film. If that happens I just change the exposure with the aperture and shutter speed to compensate. If my ISO setting is one stop under for the film I'm using I'll open the aperture or show the shutter speed by one stop. I did that recently with some black and white film. I was about a third of the way through the roll before I noticed. I plan to develop that roll today. We'll see how they turn out. It'll be my first time developing film at home.

Thank You Dave for the very informative reply. This might be a silly question. I send my film to a lab like The Dark Room,
which I am happy with.. Can the technician make corrections for my error, when I write a note alerting them that is packed with the film. Also, is it true that color negative film with its broad latitude, is quite forgiving for such errors?

Would I technically get higher exposure if I shot 400 ISO film at 200 setting and have it developed for the same time you'd develop 400 for?The reason I'm asking this is that the camera I'm using can only do 1/60 shutter speed at f2.8 so it's going to be more difficult to shoot during evening-nighttime and I still want to get decent exposure if possible.
