Any chance that this problem is caused by having xfce installed during the initial setup?

I was enjoining debian until an "apt update" bricked my AMDx64 PC. A firmware change toggled something in my bios making it impossible to boot x64 mode.IS there a quick fix I can do in sudo to remove the problem? So far all I can figure is reflash the bios. I know amd64-firmware update was applied because I saw it in the kernel build before I rebooted. I'm guessing that it applied the wrong bios for my AMDx63 as E1 when my machine is E4. Tips for backing out firmware updates would be really useful right now because of all the root-kit changes going on to block Foreshadow and Spectra-meltdown virus. I have no clue?
