My dad was the sound engineer for Bowie during his Heathen and Reality tours. Whenever I hear this song I think of him.

After he got sober, married, became a father, not only did his art continue to mature in beautiful ways but he became a pretty incredible and thoughtful person.

This is so powerful. The back story for the whole Heathen album, is heartwrenching, and so special. So much was going on in his life at this point, and it's wonderful that he wrote it down. He shared something very special with us. David Bowie you will always be missed. Thank God for your music, and the time you shared yourself with us.

I believe Bowie is talking to God here. Anyone else agree with me? It really is mt fav from Heathen LP. I really want someone to tell me I am on the right track here. Thx.

One of his most powerful recent vocal performances.Always felt Bowie started exaggerating his mockney vocal style towards the end but perhaps this was Bowie giving us something else to explore as my daughter once said “how did you get by without the internet” I replied we had “Bowie”

Definitely one of Bowie’s best, Gail Ann Dorseys bass line is amazing !

This is to me one Bowie's greatest musical poems - love the psychological complexity

Just yesterday night in Rome, a spectacular violin performer played many songs and one of them was "Is there Life on Mars?", and in the awesome silence of the huge dark hall, we could all feel David's immense music legacy flowing through. We were some thousand in tears.

Walking in the snowy street
Let me understand
Drifting down a silent park
Stumbling over land
Open up your heart to me
Show me who you are
And I would be your slave
Do you sleep in quietude?
Do you walk in peace?
Do you laugh out loud at me?
No one else that is free
Open up your heart to me
Show me all you are
And I would be your slave
I don't sit around and wait
I don't give a damn
I don't see the point at all
No footprints in the sand
I bet you laugh out loud at me
A chance to strike me down
Give me peace of mind at last
Show me all you are
Open up your heart to me
And I would be your slave
I don't sit and wait
I don't give a damn
I don't see the point at all
No footprints in the sand
I would give you all my love
Nothing else is free
Open up your heart to me
And I would be your slave

Les gens qui le connaissent peu oublient trop souvent qu'il avait une magnifique voix et une maîtrise vocale parfaite ! En plus de tous ses autres talents. Il me manque terriblement…
