I decide what I’m going to do then take a full follow through swing to make sure i feel it, then another to denote the low point . Only then do I take it to the ball and just swing . If I’m not feeling it in the pre swings I’m not stepping up, one or two “ practice” swings is far better spent time than searching for balls . It’s not about re setting mechanics it’s about calming the variables . It works, I won’t be stopping any time soon .

A great piece of advice...reminds me of a line from the movie The last Samarui...'To much mind'

I freeze a lot over the ball after to many practice swings and the accompanying swing thoughts!

Analysis paralysis kicks in!!

I usually take 2 or 3 practice swings, but they aren't full swings, or trying to work on mechanics ... mine are purely to try and get any tension out and perhaps get a feel for the tempo I want ... but even as I take them I am picking a target and visualizing the shot.

Good approach. I've been doing it like this for a long time when I'm putting and it's helped me.
The example with Federer also applies to football: Messi doesn't do a practice run when he takes a free kick either ;-).
Next time I will do exactly what you recommended in the video.
Keep up the good work👍

I use practice swings to give me a feel for the length of club in my hands, and to relax, and free myself up, before taking the shot.

Love this tip and I wish more people did this. You can see them doing all sorts before thinning or slicing their shots 😂 I like a 70% practice swing then in and hit it ⛳️ 🏌️‍♂️

Interesting, I’m going to try not doing practice swings and see if I play any better or worse. I do do them currently, but often seems like a bit of a chore, and I often wonder what the point is.
The only point I can really see is to get a feel for the different weight and inertia of each club, but unsure how necessary this is.

Great advice. My buddy takes 3 or 4 practice swings before every shot. With each swing, he unconsciously becomes more tense and swing focused as opposed to target focused. I am going to suggest he do this next time we play.

Not to mention the fatigue produced from 2-3 practice swings! Julius Boros once said God only gives you so many swings in your life...don't waste them on practice swings. I'm 84 now and have followed his advice through my playing life.

I often do it at the end of a practice session after I get annoyed at standing over the ball too long, thinking and fidgeting about with my setup. Then I knida crack it cause I'm still not hittin em great and say "just hit the bloody thing" and when I do that I do usually hit em better. 🤷‍♂️😂

I like to take a couple swings to get a feel for the club, each club feels different, and the shot shape. Once over the ball I go. If you watch the Pros, the majority are taking some sort of practice swing.

I think about way too many things before I swing to push the butt of my club back with my left hand anyway this helped thank you

Absolutely. I have lost count of the number of times I get caught behind someone doing 3 or 4 practice swings and then club it 100 metres into bush...
And then their partner does the same. Makes me want to give up golf. Very very frustrating

Looking forward to trying this on Saturday comp. Practice swings and over thinking are a common occurrence for me

So true the more you think the worse it gets I find if you hit a bad tee shot on the first hole then on the second you are too busy how do I not repeat that performance 😂😩🍻

The purpose of a practice swing is to make sure you strike the ball first according to foot and ball position with the divot, 1 to 2 swings is sufficient. Not 3 to 5 swings.

If it is a rule (no more practice swing before hitting) in near future.. I am sure foursomes only spend 3 and half hour to finish a round, and golf course can arrange more tee times for golfers

I used to be guilty of this but now I do one slow motion practice shot just to Check the face.
