Failed Projects, Upcoming projects and Lair Tour

Some behind the scenes on some projects that have failed, some projects that are still in progress, some projects that are upcoming. I think there's some important conversations that can be had about failure, perfectionism, loss of creative confidence etc. Maybe I'll try and make a video dedicated to that soon. But anyways, I am looking forward to the projects I've shown, hope you are too!

Please, please, please, whatever you do, DO NOT GET RID OF your "Krampus", or your "Kajiit", (I hope I spelled that right), v#1. Simply place them, (individually), into black bags & put them out of direct sight for awhile. Leave them alone and re-approach their builds later. What has happened is you've been focused too hard on them, & lost the forest through the trees, essentially. Give yourself a break, & concentrate on other creations for now. Then, pull them out some other time, and you'll have a better perspective of their potential. And, these DO have LOTS of! You're just burnt out on them, currently. Give yourself a break! 😁 You WILL make them work out. It just won't be right this moment. They will still be there when you're finally ready to tackle them again.

It's hard losing steam and failing on projects, but it happens to everyone! Which project is most inspiring to you?

Man that unfinished mask looks cool as is. It would be neat to see it finished eventually but I totally get it that projects just lose steam sometimes. Also a pattern for that would be badass

Great seeing you back, look forward to your new builds

there are no mistakes. Just happy accidents. You may not get where you wanted to be but you still found where you don't wanna be, and that's still progress.

Hey! You're doing great! Sometimes you fall back a few steps but once you catch your stride again you'll make up for those and gain a lot! Your work is fantastic and I hope to run into you at a con again in the future!! Thank you for sharing your videos and all your tips and patterns! :)

Krampus is such a cutie, and seeing his "bones" gives me a lot of inspiration to continue working on my kaiju. I have a lot of the same out-of-steamage as well, as I go off my own concepts as well. It's super easy to get ahead of yourself in wanting to make the thing before getting the concept out on paper, which is what I'm trying to correct currently. It's stress-y, but I know it will help in the long run. I believe in you Kaz!!! <3

omg, can't wait to see what you do with that faux taxidermy head, especially with a Warcraft dragon! Such a cool idea.

Taxidermy props are a great creative exercise for those lost projects. I did a few of those to decorate my son's bedroom.

I so strongly appreciate this video for so many reasons. I'm a big fan of how your Krampus mask is turning out and I would love to see it completed (I've been wanting to do a Krampus mask for YEARS and just plain haven't), but please don't feel pressured to complete it just for the sake of an internet stranger! Sometimes it's worth trucking along on a project through the ugly phase, and sometimes it's just plain not. I have a mask I've been sitting on for a while that I haven't made progress on for months because I keep looking at it and thinking about how I can do better. I wouldn't blame you at all for scrapping the Krampus and trying again when you get your confidence back. I'm totally in the same boat where I've discovered that I'm not as skilled as I once thought and really need something to lift me out of that all-too-familiar rut of discouragement.

Just know that I'm forever a fan of your work and I'm excited to see anything and everything you make in the future! I'm rooting for you!

I dig the museum idea. It would be like those movie special effects museums that house all sorts of practical creatures, like the Godzilla museum in Japan-- well, save for the miniature cities. Also, did you just sneakily spoil Wet Nurse at 2:41? Or am I late? Nevertheless, it was right under my nose.

Sometime projects don't work out, and its okay to step back and move onto something new. You'll return eventually when your skills have improved and you have a better vision. It's brave of you to upload a video saying you're not good enough when you definitely are from a lot of other peoples perspective! But we are our own worst critics, I've felt that way about projects and illustrations before.
I look forward to seeing what you make next <3 Good luck Kaz!

I really really like the Khajiit one! It's going to sound really weird, but I don't think it's a failure even looking at how it is right now. Maybe not as a Khajiit mask, but it looks kinda like an inspired wooden mask from a tribe or something. It has nice shape and a stylized view. Probably not something you'd want but definitely still lovely to look at.

Oh I know the struggle with the larp mask I made a wolf one that looked great in foam but awful in fur 😞😞😞 though someone else bought it and made it really nice so it turned into a win. I figured out the problem was the lower moving jaw, definitely worked better as a half mask with hood

You should sell your “trash” works! I’d love to start a project but never know how. I’m sure others feel the same and working on a base would be lovely!

Don't know why you titled it "Failed Projects" when it seemed more of a cool studio tour and WIP/ process analysis video. I especially liked the 1/4 scale busts and pattern making, that's neat.
Projects look great, and can't wait to see more.

I love the idea of the different dinosaur heads and can't wait to see them when you can finish them

I'd also love to get a better look at the henged jaw on the Krampas head

I've been trying to work something like that out for myself but I'm having trouble with durability
