The largest group that uses level IV body armor is US military, second is US civilians. Weird.

For anyone who was curious because the short doesnt tell you.

The Sig XM5/XM7 is short action, short stroke piston select fire rifle. Key differences are the recoil system, operating system, and caliber.
The M4/M16 has since 1955 used a buffer tube style continuous recoil system to reduce the recoil impulse The XM7 uses a more traditional style dual recoil spring. This means it has a heavier recoil impulse but this does get rid of the buffer tube, allowing for a folding stock that is more durable than the civilian and law enforcement folding stock adapters. The Operating system is a short stroke piston like that found on G36 rifles, AR18s, and even as far back as the SVT40. This allows the gun to operate more smoothly while suppressed. The Direct impingment system of the M4/M16 meant suppressors would send hot gasses back through the system and into the shooter's face which is very uncomfortable and makes accurate shooting difficult. The piston system doesnt eliminate this but is does reduce it. And finaly the caliber is 6.8x51mm using the older 7.62x51 NATO as a parent case, the 6.8 is a longer projectile that is more aerodynamically stable. The expected effective range will be around 800 meters but skilled marksmen will be able to easily make shots on human targets at twice that range. Part of the new caliber is also its tri metal casing. using not just a solid brass casing, but a brass body with a nickel coupler and steel case head, allows for much higher chamber pressures, meaning more velocity. So while 7.62 Nato is pushing a 150 grain projectile at around 2400 feet per second, these tri metal casings allow this new 6.8 to push a 150 grain projectile at over 3100 feet per second, meaning increased range, flatter shooting, and more kenetic energy on target.

Downsides, the rifle is considerably heavier than an M4, and M4 with a Peq15, Acog, And weapon light is still nearly half a pound lighter than the XM5 with nothing mounted on it. And the rifle is intended to be issued with a suppressor, IR laser unit, and a Sig Tango 6 LPVO scope.

I don’t think Russia is equipping it’s troops with advanced anything💀

I love how they ALMOST tell you about the new rifle...

In the battle of Fallujah, US Marines shot so many headshots that they were investigated for executions. It turns out they were just really solid shooters

We’ve tried to replace the M4 many many times, and we always just fall back on it. It’s just too effective.

It'll only take 30 years for it to be issued. The m4 ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

I wouldnt say russia is equipping their soldiers with good body armor, it is more like airsoft body armor.

The XM7 is not an assault rifle. It's a battle rifle chambered in 6.8x51mm.
It's several thousand dollars per rifle, and our men are losing 10 rounds per mag to make up the difference in size and weight.

The 6.8SPC is a 6.8x43mm round that fits into the standard M4 with nothing but a barrel (300 dollars), a bolt (180 dollars), and a mag swap (20-30 dollars/mag). It has a flight trajectory that can parallel the 5.56mm round fairly closely and has 40% more kinetic force at 300m and 20% more at 500m. The recoil is about 10% more and would require only learning a new zero. The kicker, it was developed for the 5th Special Forces group back in the early 2000s. If the military actually wanted to go to a 6.8 round, that was the time to do it.

yeah f that
that thing is heavy asf
clearly people that are designing it aren't carrying it for 10 plus miles with a full load out

Russia puts plastic plates and cardboard in their "body armor". Moreover, most of their frontline personnel isn't even given that. Interesting Engineering doesn't do a lot of fact checking do they?

Why would they need a new cartridge the 223 is the strongest cartridge ever designed by man it it destroys tissue so much that the congressman said you can’t hunt deer with it because the deer explode oh my goodness the deer explode why would the military want to change the cartridge to a better stronger one with more stopping power when the 223 can makes deer explode🦌💥🦴🩸🪣🧽nothing is left

Something most civilians don’t consider when comparing cartridges is having to wear (carry) your entire load out on top of body armor & sustainment needs.

The bigger the round,
the less you can carry,
making running out an even more likely,
and also reducing how much suppressing fire you personally send to cover your buddy in a gun fight & vice versa.

Penetration is absolutely NOT the main reason of switching to 6.8mm. They wanted to switch to increase the engagement distance and accuracy of fire, which is also helped by new digital sights

Guess my m4 is not powerful enough to be an assualt rifle now?

I have recently seen a lot of dead bodies with the "body armor" you speak of. Yes I am sure it's efficient and effective... for aesthetics

You know what defeats body armor? Speed. What does the .556 round have? Speed. What is an M4? An M16 with shorter barrel. I could be wrong, but whoever made this probably doesn't know very much about the subject matter.

Just upgrade to 22arc or even 6mm arc, but are compatable with the ar15/ m4 platform, and both offer noticably more performance without a massive jump in recoil or weight.
