2020 BMW 840i M SPORT REVIEW - Don’t Waste Money Buying An M8

I have already reviewed the 2020 BMW M8 and I told you NOT to buy one because of its MSRP of $140,000. Today I review the 2020 BMW 840i with an MSRP of $85,000 and I will discuss whether you should buy THIS 8 series instead.

I was thrilled to get back in the new BMW 8 series. I love the design of this car with its BMW Laser headlights and the giant hood ahead of the driver. It is one of the sexiest cars on the road with body lines that mimic the essence of speed and supermodels.

The interior is such a pleasant place to be, and this particular 840i comes equipped with the M Package. A must have for this car. Another must have feature is the gorgeous Crystal package (also included in this car).

Power comes from a Twin Turbo 3.0 i6 with 335 horsepower and 368 torque that powers this GT from 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Here is where the problem lies. A proper GT car, especially one with a price tag approaching $100,000, should be more powerful. Especially considering that you chose the BMW over the Mercedes S class, which would be the more luxurious option (at the sacrifice of extra power). Meanwhile with the 840i, you sacrifice some of the luxury of the Mercedes S class, while still sacrificing performance by not upgrading to the 850i, which is powered by a 4.4 Twin Turbo V8 that produces 523 horsepower and 553 torque, launching the car from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds thanks to the AWD system. THIS is the car to get. The 850i is the BMW 8 series you SHOULD buy. A true GT car in every sense of the word.

Watch my review and then compare it to the BMW M8 I reviewed last year.

I’ve been watching videos of the 8 series for so long, and it took me while to find the best video, and I think it’s safe to say this was the best review you can find on the 8 series.

I think the 840 is more than enough. I don't intend to speed but rather to cruise and to have the executive sporty look. Am actually looking at the Gran coupe with 4 doors as it is for business

I bought my wife the 840i Gran Coupe for our family car and remapped it to 420bhp . So it has the power now.

The 840, for the price, is somewhat of a head scratcher. I got a 22 850 for just over a hundred and the twin turbo v8 is in another league. I went with the 850 Gran Coupe for it's styling, twin turbo v8, and the fact it's about 90% of an M8 at about 70% of the cost. It's a lot of folks out here talking about the 850 isn't a "real M car", but they only write comments while I write checks.

I driven a 4 series coupe from Sixt car rental on my trip to Los Angeles and the issues mainly buying and driving luxury cars is price and maintenance. In Los Angeles, gas prices as high as $7.49/gallon on premium fuel, it's not a commuter car. Even if someone considered to buy a BMW, a pre-owned 2 to 3 year old is better cost wise with low mileage and extended warranty.

I hear what your saying but the 840i has the b58 motor and with about $10k in mods you can get some good power out of the motor

sweet review!!! May i ask how tall you are and if you had the seats all the way down? Im considering buying a 2020 cpo model with super low miles i had no idea they no sunroofs which is a plus for me cause i need the headroom.

We have had our convertable now for 3 months, love the car. I do wish they would have put the M4.0i engine with 382 HP in it, that would have made it a bit more sporty.

Can't compare the 840i with the M8, the latter is a hyper-performance car with a 2.5 sec 0-60 (C&D test), that's Bugatti territory -- the 840i clocks in a 4.7 sec 0-60 (C&D test) which is run-of-the-mill performance in today's market. Hence, the price differential.
