Another tip is to use medium to dark coffee (but more in the dark side) since the temp is no so high to use light to medium roast. However I am using a hack to increase temp as follows: push the steam bottom wait to be ready to steam, then turn off the machine and turn on, run the preinfusion cycle without the portafilter and stop the cycle when finish the preinfusion. Then insert the portafilter and do the espresso extraction as normal. I do not have a fast response termometer but it seems the water temp is higher that way judging by the espresso flavor I get.

I have EC885 and was using the stock pressurized portafilter for the past week but today I went to an unpressurized portafilter for the first time. Dialed in with finer grinds, the same 3 week old beans and noticed a huge difference in the strength of the shot, this would be on par with a café. Thanks for your advice Tom, I find your explanations helpful in comparison to other content. Cheers!

Hi Tom, as you know I have a Dedica 685 which I modified including bottomless portafilter, IMS 14g basket, Rancilio steam wand and your shortened spring mod, it’s a great little machine and as you say heats up pretty quick, I love the size of it as you know I live on a boat so space is limited, I thoroughly recommend the Dedica to anyone starting out and there’s always second hand out there if money is an issue, great video again Tom 👍🏻 Andrew

I've watched several of your videos while looking for a good but not expensive coffee machine I decided to take your advice and bought the DeLonghi Dedica 685 & a bottomless portafilter I'm so glad I did it's everything I was looking for in a coffee machine. Thank you.

I'm looking all over for the cream colored version like the one you have and can't find it anywhere. I know, such a minor detail, but I love the look of it.

Hi Tom, I am increasing the temp stability as follows: remove the spring from the portafilter, put coffee ground directly in the basket with out the portafilter when done, i put the portafilter without the basket in the machine and run two cycles of water to warm up the portafilter, put the basket in the portafilter and wait 15-20 sec to warm the basket and finally do a normal extraction. I do not have a termometer probe as you have but the coffee is now better. The idea of removing the spring is to insert without effort the basket avoiding to generate cracks in the puck

Nice! The 5th reason was new to me. But I really like the it🥰 bought it 5 month ago and I'm extremely happy now.
Bought a coffee grinder from the same company, and also very happy.

Its a brilliant machine Tom partner satisfaction is a massive plus in our house as counter space is not great. Since doing all YOUR the mods and replacing the pressure valve once we have been very happy its saved me loads as I was going to spend 4/5 times as much to replace it when the APV went and I found your channel. Thanks Dude

The DeLonghi Dedica is one of my favorite manual coffee makers. I brew 14 grams of coffee and use a double portafilter. I have found that if I use a small amount of coffee, it will be undercooked.

This is the only coffee machine I've owned, bought in February. But I've just ordered a second one for my parents' house. Awesome value for money especially as I've bought refurbished machines which are half the price for to minor cosmetic scratches

I just ordered an EC885 with the Arte steam wand already installed. I can't wait for it to arrive so I can get into espresso. I bought an older steam type espresso machine but they are limited in terms of pressure, I wanted something that I could grow into and teach my son about espresso along the way. The Dedica seemed to fit the bill, I like the programmable shots and compact size.

I have that machine but I haven't been able to pull decent shot of espresso, so many variables; only once I got crema. I bought a bottomless portafilter which, interestingly, goes in easier than the original one. I'll watch your other videos and keep trying.

Hi Tom -- I just bought a Dedica Delonghi machine model EC685.BK and watched a few of your videos. My first shot I pulled after doing the various starting tasks was very disappointing. I made a far better expresso with a Delonghi machine i had that was 1/2 the price. I haven't gotten a grinder etc. yet, just working with what's here. i am intrigued with the idea to buy the non-pressurized filter you shared a video about if one will fit without having to do major work ? I watched a video that was scary about disassembling and sawing the inner black plastic device to the right size. Don't have the skill or tools for that. Thanks for your help. I was so disappointed already thinking to return the machine and upscale when I have the funds. But this one fits my tiny kitchen space well. Like the price point. Like the idea it might be right with some trial and error which I'm willing to do. I have 30 days. Hope you can help. Thank you!
