I’m choosing to believe that the woman in the cursed Licca-chan story looked behind her, saw her beloved doll, and realized there was nothing to be afraid of and they reconciled and became good friends again

Honestly, I think the village of dolls is rather sweet and very touching to be honest. I say bless this woman who memorialized the town and people she held so dear.

The actual reason for the Hina doll's hair "growing" is that a portion of the hair is bundled up inside the doll's head, but as the doll ages, the bundle starts to come undone, letting more hair loose. Let's Ask Shogo has a really interesting video on this. I'd recommend checking it out.

It’s kind of sweet that in her effort to memorialize the population of an increasingly empty town, Tsukimi sort of created an attraction that draws attention and visitors there. Maybe people won’t move in, but it will make sure the town is never really empty.

I snickered at how cheerfully you made the Licca-chan on the phone sound compared to the creepiness of the whole thing~

The Nagaro story is so sad, but sweet to know that the memories of the village will be remembered 😢

I actually cried a bit at the story of Nagaro village, it's actually unbelievably beautiful and sweet of her to populate a dying and diminishing town with dolls. It's not like they're creepy or malformed or anything either, they're these cute, plush dolls meant to be the reminder of her friends, family, and community that once lived there. I honestly hope people try to maintain this, it would be horrible to see this go truly abandoned.

That story of the Doll Village almost brought me to tears, what a wonderful person Tsukimi Ayano is.

Okiku's face is pretty uncanny. Also it seems like more than dolls can be haunted, I remember a story of a semi-life sized thicc anime girl figure that was rumored to be haunted and was even exorcized or purified. I do wonder, is there a story of a haunted model kit? Like, someone's Gundam model kit started haunting them.

The way you voiced Licca-chan made me feel sorry for her instead of scared haha. She sounded like she was really hurt by what her dearest friend did to her but still wanted to be together.

I had an ex friend who's grandma collected dolls, she had many of the porcelain faced, vintage styled dolls, but also a lot of those ichimatsu dolls with the bobbed hair and kimono. They were mostly locked away behind class cabinets, though a good few sat on the dressers and otherwised displayed in her grandmas room and the guest room. I've never been scared of dolls, vintage, antique, or modern. But something about her house was off. My ex friend talked about seeing a little figure of a child running away from one of the doll displays pretty often. And I know for a fact that her basement was haunted, where ironically, no dolls were kept. At one point while we sat in her room across from the open basement door, it slammed shut, her mom wasn't home, no one opened a door to the outside, because he grandma was already sitting outside with a friend and their dog and we could see all 3 of them from the hallway. Her mom's room was also in the basement, and in general it was just a hangout space. A few times while we would sit in her mom's room watching movies (she had the largest tv in the house) things would go flying off the bedside tables or the curtains on this small little window would be pulled open. I even watched my phone fly halfway across the floor from the bedside table, and my only reaction was to go, "Well that was rude, " and for like an hour the activity just stopped. Nothing ever felt malicious, if anything a lot of the time it was just playful, but I still disliked sleeping in her basement. But at the time I think that was because the windows down there didn't have curtains and I have a weird phobia with being able to see through windows at night. I have no proof the dolls were the source, but sometimes, it definitely felt like some of them would stare despite their eyes being fixed in place, and occasionally I was certain that a few had been shifted around, but I only went there every once and a while so I don't have anything to prove that her grandma wasn't just moving the dolls around occasionally.

People talking about dolls having a third leg, with some being purple and others being hairy, makes me want to giggle than be afraid. 🤭

My absolute worst nightmare would be being haunted by an inanimate object, especially a doll. Great video! Thank you for always bringing us a taste of Japanese culture!

As someone who played Fatal Frame 5, Awashima Shrine sounds very similar to the doll shine in the game. The dolls outside of the shrine and the basement of dolls finally makes sense to me.

Y'know, I'm gonna give Licca the benefit of the doubt. She wasn't disposed of properly and just tried to find her way back home. The story never says she got angry or violent. Maybe she should befriend Okiku, a permanent child and her permanent doll playing together forever u v u

This video was amazing!

I found the Okiku story really interesting partially because of an obscure anime I like called Kaidan Restaurant. One of the restaurant employees is a living doll named Kiku who has a running bit of her hair growing at a comically fast rate and always needing to be cut.

The show also has a sentient straw curse doll, who is an agent of chaos along with a ghost girl named Noro.

that three-legged licca legend is funny cuz where would that even attach 💀 she's such an icon though, even japanese market barbie dolls during the 2000s had big, brown eyes and strawberry blonde hair like the typical licca-chan look

You may be the first one to picture the village of dolls in this light. I dunno why I teared up a little.
I kinda love this story now thanks to the context you gave us.
