And nothing has a greater negative value than a piano. They are like a decommissioned nuclear power plant.

Yep, several things bought and ended up going to a thrift store for someone else to waste their money on.

I bought an 18th century arm chair at a yard sale for $50.00, two weeks later sold it for $500 at Brimfield!!

My mother used to say, 'don't judge value by the asking price, but at the sold price of something comparable, because i't is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay'.

Yes! I always refer to this at auction. Sometimes sold for MORE than its worth. From online bidders who haven't had a closer look.

Well I paid $35 for a beautiful Asian Chest which was in great shape a few hundred years old! That is worth a pretty penny! I also found a solid mahogany dresser that is 125 years old beautiful for one dollar. Guess I get great deals. I have been given exquisite antiques as well. I never buy things for that reason but because I love it, fits my home and it saves it! Every single antique I have is worth substantial money and not once did I pay the value!

If you know how to make it worth more, then absolutely buy it 😊

I bought a leather La-z-boy chair at Goodwill for $50. I bought $50 of new springs on eBay and rebuilt it. It's worth more than $100 to me.

Reminds me of an extremely vintage sewing machine i bought. Seller insisted the price was Firm because they "knew how much it was worth" and essentially claiming those machines were sooo valuable...i didn't bother arguing, or telling him i was buying it to practice restoration techniques on without wrecking an actually worthwhile machine 😅 good job seller, found the only person willing to pay for a slightly over priced machine on purpose. 😂😂

*Unless you're a furniture flipper and already know how much you can resell it for.

Yard sales, marketplace, and even donation shops are terrible about selling you something that’s worth less than $0.00 for near retail value! I always look at three things… #1. Overall condition… is it structurally stable, missing major parts that cannot be replaced, or has it had major damage in the past with bad repair work. #2. Does have value as an antique as is… this is hard, because you kinda have to know what you’re looking at… but my best way to evaluate this threshold is to ask myself “will anything I do to repair it make it less valuable?” And #3. Functionality… if a piece is structurally sound, and damaged to the extent that a repair or up cycle job won’t be a loss to it as an antique, will it be more functional if I spend time and money on it as a project… these three things keep my attention on not destroying a valuable antique, knowing which pieces to walk away from, and which ones are worth giving a new life! Best advice to anyone when it comes to antique furniture…. Just because it’s old, doesn’t mean it’s worth a lot of money!

Don't bother putting any words on the screen in these "shorts" because there is so much crap written on them we can't read it.

Never buy something at a yard sale that looks like junk

The Internet needs to learn that just because something is old doesn't mean it's valuable or undervalued. Someone will buy a $20 cabinet, made in a classic looking style, from a flee market, made from cheap ply wood, paint it white; and the entire internet will lose its mind because they ACTUALLY beleive that someone knowingly painted over a 200 year old masterpeice worth $30k.

I don't buy anything I can't lift, so no furniture for me regardless. (LOL)
