This was a popular song when I was a little boy. To me, it's magical. Nothing else on the radio sounded anything like it. I thought the chorus said, "Please, please, help them please". Most of the time I was in a car with my mother. She would always have the windows down in the warm weather, and car radios had one speaker on top of the dashboard.

"My name is Richard Sakai, and I'm an anesthesiologist and I'd like to dedicate this next song to my wife, Patti."

I was about 9 or 10 years old when I first heard this song on a plastic 45 record that was found in an old musty room in a childhood friend’s house. I swear, I didn’t even know this artist who would become so famous ! now I’m 61… I LOVE YOU CHER !!!

First time I heard this song was in September or early October of 1971. I was in Marine Boot Camp and was on Mess Duty. We had been deprived of all outside contact/stimuli since we got there. The Chow Hall had a radio playing out on the loading dock. I had to go to the back to get more milk to put in the dispensers. This song was playing and I thought it was simply amazing. First music I had heard in 2 months. Made an impression to say the least.

That song has such a mystical, dark and haunting layout and instrumentation, it collaborates well with the lyrics. Cher's voice compliments it well.

My grandad was virtually raised by Romanies. He could even speak their language. He always believed they saved his life.
