This movie was my childhood and I love it deeply! Loved the review, but I like to think the ending is bittersweet, since the unicorn found the rest of her family/species but had to leave the relationships she made along the way.

I remember this movie and no matter what breaks me especially when unicorn sceams " I can feel this body die all around me ' absolutely heartbreaking and horrifying if you think about it

There’s a sequel book! Basically Lir on a quest to find Amalthea despite her being a unicorn. It was just never animated

It wasn't sorrow, she could always feel sorrow, she ended up being the only unicorn to know REGRET and love.

In Ireland we call the whites of the waves the white horses, maybe that’s where they got the idea. 😂

"A happy ending is had by none"

All the more reason why this beautiful masterpiece deserves a sequel to mitigate us towards that happy ending!

I was scared of this movie when I was a kid. But I still watched it bc I loved unicorns. I guess it was a love/hate relationship

Such a fantastic movie, and a childhood favorite for me. But the ending wasnt all bad, the mortal wizard and the woman had each other (though they lost a piece of themsleves for having seen and spent time with a unicorn and losing her compnay), the Pricne found bittersweet solace in purpose. And the lovely Unicorn also had a bittersweet ending; she found her family again and returned home with them, but she has to bear the weight of not being as pure as her sisters and brothers anymore, she knew sorrow and love (romantic), she knew grief and violence, she'd scene death and she'd expeinced mortality (described so painfully as "I can feel this body dying all around me"). She was no longer as the rest of her kin and would never be able to be quite like them again. But she experienced the pain and anger of seeing a loved one harmed and discovered the courage to defend them, all this changed her forever and also put her in a unique position to better protect her kind from future harm. This makes this movie more real and raw than almost any other animated film I'd seen as a child.

Christopher Lee's voice got a toehold in my mind for the rest of my life. And I didn't realize how or why Saruman's/Count Dooku's words had me so locked in place until I figured it out.

the unicorns living in sea foam thing actually kind of makes sense if you ever read the creation myth abt horses bc it basically goes Poseidon made the first horses out of sea foam

The rare fantasy story where the events are set in motion by prozac not being invented yet.
