This is the Laowa 10mm f/2.8 full frame lens, available in LUMIX L-Mount, Canon RF, Sony FE and Nikon Z. This lens is wide. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly wide it is. I mean, you may think your 18mm is wide, but that's just peanuts to this lens.

⚠️ DISCLAIMER ⚠️ Venus Laowa loaned this lens to me for this video.

**Exploring the LAOWA 10mm Full Frame f/2.8 Zero-D Lens: First Impressions from the Lumix Global Summit**

I recently had some time with the new Laowa 10mm f/2.8 full frame Zero-D lens. This lens is wide. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly wide it is. I mean, you may think your 18mm is wide, but that's just peanuts to this lens.

Some points…

- **Design & Build**
- Gunmetal blue finish, complementing the Lumix S9 in blue.
- Manual focus with a very smooth focus ring.
- Made of metal, weighs 420 grams (just under 15 ounces), giving a solid feel.
- Built-in, removable lens shade.
- 77mm filter thread, though filters may cause slight vignetting due to the wide field of view.
- Closest focusing distance: 12cm, allowing for close-up shots.

- **Functionality & Features**
- No optical image stabilization, but pairs well with Lumix's in-camera stabilization.
- Video crop options on Lumix cameras: Full-frame or APS-C (1.6x crop, effectively making it a 16mm lens).
- Effective stabilization when walking, almost like a gimbal effect.
- Well-controlled focus breathing, ideal for consistent cinema shots.

- **Practical Applications**
- **Wide Angle Comparison**: The widest Lumix prime lens available is 18mm. This 10mm lens offers a significantly wider perspective.
- **Photography Examples**: Grid Lines and Level Gauge features help ensure perfectly level shots, crucial for architectural and real estate photography.
- **Creative Uses**: I used it quite a bit in Osaka for creating super-wide X-Pan styled photos.

- **Final Thoughts & Pricing**
- The lens is exceptionally wide, sometimes considered too wide for specific photography, like real estate.
- It’s versatile for both real estate and street photography, providing unique perspectives.
- Priced at $799 USD, it's a specialized tool rather than an impulse buy.
- Quality build, solid feel, and excellent performance for those who need an ultra-wide lens.

The LAOWA 10mm full frame f/2.8 Zero-D lens is an impressive piece of equipment for photographers needing an ultra-wide-angle lens. Its manual focus and solid build quality make it a reliable addition to any photographer's kit. Check the link below for more details and purchasing options.

Loved how you compred the 18mm with 10mm by lining up the images. Such a great way to visualise just how much wider 10mm is!

A remarkable little lens. Love what happens with the x-pan crop. Some very distinctive imagery.

Honestly, the best setup I've seen so far with this lens. Great work! 👌

Photo for real taste, yes too wide. But for video since the S9 and S5IIX both crop for 60FPS, that makes it pretty good for video walk thru! SO you have a 15/16mm FOV for the video.

Really appreciate the detail put into the focal length comparisons. After watching this video, I dug out an Olympus Pro 7-13 that I got years ago for my micro 4/3 system (the barrel distortion wasn’t ideal for my purposes). Well, I just sold it to make room for this nice new lens. My full frames will be happy to mix in a few shots with this.

The 2 aputure blade options are intriguing. That comparison would be interesting.

Wow, I also plan to use that combination; I've used the GM1 with the Laowa 7.5mm before.
Thanks for your review.

I wish it had autofocus for l mount that would make it so much better

I wish they released the autofocus version for L mount, doesn't make sense to me paying the same price as the E mount one, too expensive for a manual lens I think

I have canon so it’s manual focus for me only, but why would I want a 5 vs 14 blade aperture? What’s the man advantage/disadvantage to one over the other???

Are manufacturers who aren’t part of the L amount alliance unable to add autofocus to their lens?

Wait is that 10mm on Full Frame.. so 5mm on MFT? The lens makes the S9 look like a GM1. 😂

Still not going to buy a LUMIX S9 .. no matter how hard YouTubers push it for Panasonic. It’s mediocre at best.
