SLAB LEAK DETECTION LOCATING WATER LINES - Leak Detection

So what is slab leak detection? Slab leak detection is a specialized skill in the plumbing industry where a trained slab leak specialist uses specific knowledge and equipment to accurately find the source of a water or sewer leak under a slab foundation. Why should you care? Because prolonged slab leaks can cause immense damage to your home and sometimes even be catastrophic.

Whether you're a homeowner or a plumber, you should know about slab leak detection because it's vital to the health of your home and if you're a plumber, it's a great skill that can help you stand out from your competition.

Thanks for watching! I'm Roger Wakefield, LEED AP, The Expert Plumber and welcome to my channel. On this channel, I teach homeowners how to save money on their plumbing by doing DIY plumbing projects. I also teach plumbers and plumbing company owners how to be the best plumbers in their area and run successful plumbing businesses. My goal is to teach you everything you need to know about plumbing.

I always just use a fish tape and locate the maniflods and test each line with a pressure gauge setup then do a reroute when possible

I use goldak 777 with leak detector and line tracer/locator....i typically will be able to find leaks in slab with water running...but if not i will cut leaking pipe above ground at manifold then pump air into just the one bad line and then trace line, listen to line, locate, and then preform direct access/Jackhammer to expose pipe and repair...been doing leak detections for about 5 years...im usally within 1 ft of my mark, and its always fun to preform

I do use line locating equipment when I perform leak detection. Leak detection is by far the most time-consuming task I do. My problem is running into too many poly waterlines. That’s when it gets really frustrating.

I hire a local company that just does location leaks. Saves me a ton of time . They locate the leak for me and I go back and fix it. Since we are a small company we don’t have time to spend on the locating.

How does a homeowner ask the prospective plumbing company if they have this type of equipment?

Roger I hate to be straight forward but I’m not a music producer or photographer. Each link you put up is for some studio equipment or microphone or a timer. None of those links shows that device you are using. If your trying to keep secrets to yourself fine but don’t lie and say the items you used are in the description…they arent

Hey Roger, I recently bought a house that had a slab leak in the past. They did a re-rout with pex and I’m noticing strange water pressure in my pipes. Could this be related to the re route. The water pressure seems to be constant and strong and all of the sudden it will decrease to about half for about 15-20 seconds and then come back normal. This seems to happen about every 10 to 15 minutes.
