What I learned as a child was that if I had compassion for someone I could link to their wavelength. As an adult I learned that this works with animals as well, including birds. I have parakeets and they will engage in conversations we are having, adding a comment. One overheard us talking about going out to eat this evening and said “You are leaving.”….this type of thing happens several times a day. They build on their vocabulary saying relevant things and sometimes asking questions too.
