This dish is an emotion to many South Indians.
It’s my favourite breakfast.
It’s called CHITRANNA in Karnataka.

Honestly, even when my parents could afford the flights, we took the train, at least one way.
I think their mindset was that it's part of being Indian. The train journey and trains are the lifeblood of this country and how a lot of the people travel. So it was a way to keep us grouned.
For this reason we also took interstate busses and local buses too.

Indian food is literally the best food in the world. I’m an American of Eastern European/Germanic descent, and while I love my traditional cultural foods, absolutely NOTHING IN THE WORLD beats the intense variety, and complexity of Indian food.
I’ve never once had a dish that I did not want to eat multiple plates of.
I feel very thankful that I had parents who insisted upon us boys being exposed to different cultures through art, music, literature, and food.
One of my goals is to take a few weeks or maybe a month and visit India, if for nothing else than the food itself.
Plus I love spicy food, and Indian dishes tend to always bring the spice level into the stratosphere.
❤ 🇮🇳

I live in a greenhouse with banana trees growing. I love to cook with the leaves. The bananas only come once a year so it's nice to be able to use it for other things the rest of the year. The first thing I ever had with banana leaves were tamales in Mexico.

This reel is so wholesome, the story, the sound of mustard seeds cracking, and the beautiful bright colour of lemon rice.
It makes me feel so satisfied!

In Indonesia, we have similar dish! It's called 'nasi kuning' which means yellow rice, but we don't use lemon

The most lovely part of your videos is that they show the gorgeous synergy between food and emotion which takes you on a whole another profound journey of memories 🥺

Yeaaaa🥰🥰 I used to love this eating in trains… those days when we used to travel for 2, 3 days… preparing pulihora with tamarind and packing was exciting for me💖 carrying in big cans 😆

I had friends during junior high who would always have variations of lemon rice and other similar foods and exchange lunches with me, so remembering the flavor and colors of this dish, while it may not be a part of my own heritage, fills me with nostalgia and reminds me of my childhood.

Even a simple daal chawal made by my mum and especially fed by her (by hands I mean) tastes so much better than any luxury restaurant I have eaten at. Now that my mum is old and sick and can't do kitchen work... that is something I miss a lot and I wish I can eat one day again.
