How crucial are the Lok Sabha polls for Karnataka? | Decode Karnataka

Karnataka is in the thick of electoral action. The State will go to polls in the second and third phases of the Lok Sabha elections - on April 26 and May 7. With both the Congress and the BJP-JD(S) combine finalising their list of candidates for 28 constituencies, the State is expected to witness intense campaigning and hard-fought battles over the weeks to come.

Having voted a new State government to power just last year, how crucial is the upcoming parliamentary election for Karnataka?

As a flurry of political activity takes over Karnataka, the State is gearing up for a high-stakes, bipolar contest this election, thanks to the alliance between the BJP and JD(S).

In the 2019 election, riding on the Modi wave, the BJP swept Karnataka, winning 25 of its 28 parliamentary seats, while the Congress and the JDS won one each, with the final seat going to an independent. While the BJP hopes to recreate this magic yet again, the Congress is banking on the apparent success of its guarantee schemes to grab more seats this time around.

To give us more insights into what will most certainly be high-pitched clashes, we have The Hindu Karnataka's bureau chief, S. Bageshree.

Not one MP elected from BJP talked in favour of Karnataka in parliament, I hope people of the state teach them fitting lesson and hope they don't win more than 2 seats.

One thing the editor failed to point out is that this election is most crucial for JDS rather than the two national parties.
If BJP-JDS makes a mark by sweeping Old Mysore region, then JDS is safe.
If Congress does well in this Vokkaliga belt, then DK will be defacto tall Vokkaliga leader and claim stake as the next CM!
For BJP, Karnataka is of very little significance as there are no huge gains or losses in seats expected.

Didn't BJP lost 2018 assembly election but managed to win 25 seats in 2019 General election...Nowdays people choose govt wisely, they know this is central govt election, so I think BJP will clean sweep Karnataka this time as well.

Karnataka MPs from 2019 batch have been useless. Not a single MP has done anything for his consistuency nor raised issues in parliament.
Its utter shame.
Looking at the candidates I don't feel that is changing

Double Engine govts have destroyed Karnataka completely. Look at Bangalore and the Karnataka as a whole in a state of chaos, confused and devided.
Only minister from the state (FM) who is heard and seen in the media is hurting the cuase of the state. Tyranny of the import and unelectable.
It is BJP Vs BJP on one side and BJP Vs Cong on the other hand.
BJP got 26/28 in 2019. Look what Karnataka got in return.
1. Finished 2 profit making nationalised banks for the sake of Gujarat based bank
2. Attempt to takeover Nandini by Amul
3. Pride of Karnataka, the Murthy family, is the Mascot of BJP for QPQ. Sold out. Legitimising the agenda for starving the state of development, 15 NP/Re contribution, take away IT business to GIFT city, Gandhi Nagar the emerging Singapur of India

Developments that the PM delivered to the state:
1. Road shows with showering of floral petals on himself amidst crowd frenzy Modi Modi
2. Flagging off of Vande Bharat train!!
3. 4 lane highway converted to 6 lane!!!
4. Extending raily platform!!!!
5. One small AP as retirement gift to Yeddyurappa

People of Karnataka are sensitive and retaliated with humiliating defeat with BJP/Cong= 65/135, in 2023.

Clear message; Karnataka doesn't tolerate insult and injustice. At the moment BJP/Modi/Shah may be big force in national politics and threatening non BJP govts but people will show the power of their vote once again in 2024.
