eat before your hungry, drink before your thirsty, pay attention to the road ahead, keep your lights bright and eliminate time and distance remaining by just enjoying the moment and managing the moment. Have naps if you need to and understand these long rides naturally have a bit of a roller coaster of emotions.

Ive learned there are only 2 options in life in any given moment - Enjoy the moment with gratitude or hate the moment with a bad attitude! I remember doing PBP in 2003 and hitting a low point. It was about 4am and I was hallucinating and not really enjoying it. I asked myself 'WHAT ARE YOU OPTIONS??? 1. Quit and make up some excuse. 2. Have a power nap, some more figs and water and recharge and go and remember this ride forever!!. I chose the 2nd option and was glad I did because the euphoria of hitting the finish was insane! This French dude asked me in the last checkpoint 'can you see the finish line?' I said 'no not yet' and he is like 'well keep f#$%king ride then aussie boy until you see it!!! you can do it!'.

After a long break from cycling (and by long I'm talking like 20+ years), I've been doing a few rides the last 2 years or so. Finally managed a 110Km ride in one day a week or so ago which I really never thought I could do. And am now in the exciting planning stages of doing the Coast to Coast ride in the UK in August (West to East coast)!
I've certainly found your channel to be inspirational, and have bought more than a few pieces of kit for my trip after seeing your reviews.
Mine's only going to be 300Km, and I'm doing it the easy route, but good on you for helping a rapidly approaching 50 yo mamil to get out there and have a little adventure. Cheers.

Canal path at midnight - what could go wrong? Good choice of light, I've never had an issue with my Exposure lights. remember a newspaper makes a cheap/effective windbarrier and any local store sells water (larger bottles are often cheaper). Good luck!

You have carrying items you need down to an art form. I think the new dynamo light should be the best. Never seen one in the USA. Mudguards are a smart needed touch. Keeps all the road nastiness out of things that are always breaking. Also, wish happiness. Good luck. And safe journey.
