Myth #6 -There is a Legendary Revolver called the Baldwin Special...that aims and fires itself

"The district attorney and the police are just looking for the facts."
Wow, I didn't expect a 6th bonus myth!

It doesn't matter if I'm going to the grocery store just 3 blocks from my home or to my Mother's house, I always carry when I leave my house and I always have one chambered because you never know what's lurking nearby.

About #1. Years ago a retired Police Office told me to always carry with a round in the chamber. He said that not because he did when on duty but because he did not when he was off duty. One night when his house was broken into, while he was home, he racked his 1911 to engage the person breaking in only to have the round not seat. Luckily the person breaking in fled upon see him and before he could re-rack the slide.

#3, while absolutely true, does not take into account that some people cannot take their gun to work with them. They are forced to leave it in their car, or face being fired or arrested depending on where they work. In that case, the best they can do is lock it up in a car safe.

Re: #5 - my gun law instructor was a retired police chief, and he laid it out that the police are by definition agents of the state. An officer might personally agree with your actions in a DGU, but that's irrelevant, legally speaking.

Ours is an adversarial justice system (i.e. The People vs. The Defendant), and if the DA presses charges, the police are not there to be on your defense team. Ideally, they are just there to give facts. But a competent prosecutor is going to make use of any statements you made to the police gathered during their fact-finding as part of the state's case against you if he or she can.

Also, remember things like 911 calls are admissible as evidence.

On #3, sometimes you find yourself having to go in places where it's not legal to carry. Personally, if I'm just going to the bank or to a government building, my gun will stay home, and it definitely stays home when I'm at work (where I can't legally carry). For when I'm out and about and have to go in someplace where it's not allowed (or when I don't realize the place I'm going to has a no guns sign till I get there), I've got a pistol safe under my driver's seat and I make sure I park in line of sight of a camera.

#5, we had a clear cut case of self defense here a few years back. Bad guy had broken in the guy's car window and was trying to stab him and his girlfriend. The guy shot and killed him. Our DA pursued the case and to this day still says that guy should have gone to prison. This despite the very clear cut self-defense case and our very self-defense friendly laws in this area. Never assume the (ostensibly) good guys are going to be on your side.

Hilarious gun myth: All bullets create sparks and people fly backwards when hit with a bullet.

As a retired cop who survived three on duty shootings, albeit w/a .38, I can say w/o hesitation you will NOT have time to chamber a round in a sudden attack. Carry chambered or get a revolver.

Myth Number 6: Violent criminals always follow any sigh saying this is a gun free zone.

Hard to believe, but some grown adults really believe that BS. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

#5 was laughable because you are absolutely right about law enforcement and the prosecuting attorneys could be anti-gun and the facts they gather could be slanted towards their own beliefs. This is why I personally have etched into my mind to tell the responding law enforcement officials that I will cooperate fully, but I MUST talk to an attorney FIRST and have them present during questioning.

#3: I work for a Bridgestone affiliate. Ran the facts through corporate HR years back. (former military law enforcement, CCW in multiple states, mentioned keeping sidearm in toolbox in a lock box) went allll the way to the top of the ladder, then through legal. Got a nice phone call from a "top banana". We talked at length - I was told I could hang my sidearm on a hook outside the shop door, but it couldn't physically come in the building. So what's safer? locked in one of my bikes or my truck in the parking lot, or a "go ahead and swipe it" hook?

Leaving a gun in your car is sometimes legitimately the only option. If a college student wants to excercise their 2A right, they obviously can't carry on campus, BUT most states require universities to allow firearms to be kept in cars while on campus

Had a friend retired from Washington DC police department., said that back in early days left your first cylinder empty in case lost weapon in a fight. One night a rookie Walking his beat, two guys come out from robbing a liquor store as the officer started for revolver one pointed a double barrel sawed down shotgun in his face. They took his revolver put him on his knees, the guy pulled the triggers on shotgun but both failed so the other pointed service revolver but it failed because of empty chamber. They took off running leaving officer on his knees, my friend said the officer quit and became a priest

Agree on "empty chamber" but I think in the case of revolvers what some folks used to do was (on revolvers) was to keep the position in the cylinder under the hammer empty so if the weapon was dropped on the hammer there was no possibility of accidental discharge. In the event you went to shoot it the cylinder would rotate one place clockwise as the hammer moved back so there would be a round when the hammer fell. Therefore they were choosing to have 5 rounds instead of 6.

Regarding keeping a round in the chamber. I would like numbers to compare, how many accidental discharges occurred due to the round being in the chamber vs how many armed people were killed because they did not have time to load one.

I'm glad you live in a state where privately owned businesses allow you to carry in their business with no gun free zones but not all of us are that lucky and have to leave our gun in the center console or glove box so we're now breaking laws

And don't forget myth 5(a): "A warning shot will scare away the bad guy, is better than actually hurting someone, and will be seen favorably by the DA."

I am a legal gun owner and CCW permit holder, and I carry everywhere no matter if it says “ no firearms alou” who are they to tell me where I can and can’t carry. Things happen at a seconds notice and I am always gonna be prepared. Now if I am somewhere that doesn’t allow guns and someone’s sees mine or whatever the I will just leave. But I am never coming in without my HEAT
